The Physics & Analytics department at Agfa’s Material Technology Center offers multi-disciplinary analysis and test services to both Agfa internal customers as well as external customers viawww.agfa-labs.com .
Function
As junior manager microscopy & spectroscopy you are responsible for:
- The day-to-day management of the (electron) microscopy laboratory. This includes coordination of work and daily coaching of the operators in the lab. At a later stage, the day-to-day management of the FTIR/Raman laboratory will also be added to your responsibilities.
- Hands-on microscopic (light microscopy, electron microscopy, profilometry) and spectroscopic (EDX and FTIR) characterization of the materials properties of coatings, films, functional polymers, printed parts and other materials from our internal and external clients, including all necessary sample preparation.
- Participation in and coordination of interdisciplinary project teams aimed at solving materials related issues. These can be R&D, application or production related projects, and projects involving patent issues and competitor material analysis.
- Communicating with internal and external clients: We work according to 1-to-1 partnerships in order to understand our clients’ needs as well as possible.
- Keeping our methods and equipment up-to-date in accordance with demands from our customers and implementing new test methods in the lab for new materials and new applications from our research programs. To this end, you know how to find the correct information in international literature, patents and you stay up to date by attending international conferences.
- Maintaining and expanding our international network of collaboration partners and platforms with specialized equipment.
- You are a Master of Science or have a PhD in physics, materials science or applied chemistry or have the necessary experience in a similar field.
- You are familiar with electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), light microscopy, profilometry, EDX spectroscopy and sample preparation. Application of these concepts to organic-based multilayer systems or polymer-based materials is a clear plus.
- Knowledge of organic spectroscopy (FTIR / Raman) is of clear added value to us. Knowledge of optical measurements (UV/VIS spectroscopy), knowledge of digital microscopy, image processing and analysis, and automation (e.g. Labview) are also benefits.
- You have a strong analytical mindset and have excellent organizational skills.
- You are familiar with data analysis and statistics.
- You are a hands-on person, who is not afraid of practical challenges.
- You like to work outside of the routine, you enjoy a good challenge and can cope with fast-changing goals and environments.
- You have business sense and work towards reaching concrete objectives and goals for your clients.
- You are an excellent communicator and can build strong interpersonal relationships. You can transfer knowledge to your clients in a clear and common language.
- You speak English and Dutch, or are willing to learn Dutch in the near future.
