ADB SAFEGATE is looking for a high-potential professional to support R&D. Our Research & Development team is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join them in their adventure. The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for detailed mechanical and thermal design and project follow up of new and existing light products.

Responsibilities:

• Executes detailed mechanical & thermal design: starting from a requirement specification, design the mechanics to support the light engine & electronics
• Cooperate with integration of light engine & electronics into a new product: consider mechanical interface as well as electrical interface in mechanical design
• Verify mechanical design with (stress, thermal) simulations & prototypes
• Measure different concepts & different end products for mechanical performance and available tolerances
• Cooperate in establishing the product specification and product documentation (manuals, leaflets)
• Provide maintenance of existing light products during product life cycle
• Build up knowledge of business standards (FAA, ICAO, …) & participate in activities to improve these business standards
• Provide technical support to other departments
• Prospect new technology & new materials / components
• Continuously search for improvement of design & test tools
• Take part in external relations with innovative suppliers, subcontractors, universities, external laboratories and other business fields.
• Take part in securing of intellectual work through the generation of invention disclosures and patents.
• Adhere to all relevant administrative requirements, policies and procedures and respect confidentiality of data and compliance rules.
• Evaluate competitor products, follow up new products in the AGL market

Qualifications/Skills:

• Knowledge of market, market trends, competitors, customer potentials, market shares,...
• Technical know-how of the Airfield Portfolio.
• Ability for creative, out-of-the-box thinking.
• Willingness to travel and to stay abroad for short periods.
• Different design and simulation tools e.g. SOLIDWORKS
• Different configuration environments e.g. PDM works
• Dutch, French, English; other languages and especially German are an asset

Experience:

• Expert knowledge in design tools (Solidworks, …) & simulation tools
• Insight in modern production processes (in house and at suppliers) related to our products (casting techniques, plate work techniques, injection techniques, fastening techniques)
• Excellent mechanical theory knowledge
• Excellent material properties knowledge
• Expert knowledge of mechanical/thermal/optical test tools and machines
• Professional knowledge of relevant international and national standards (FAA, ICAO, …) and CE/IEC requirements
• Professional knowledge of products and systems used on airports
