International Markets is a highly dynamic region, with UCB operating in 30 countries through local affiliates or strategic partnerships. UCB provides medicines and solutionsto many patients throughout the region, but the unmet healthcare needs remain high. To strengthen our Immunology expertise and impact within International Markets, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Medical Lead Dermatology, International Markets,based in our HQ, Brussels, Belgium
The Medical Lead Dermatology, International Markets (IM) is a senior medical affairs & scientific expert of the therapeutic area and provides Medical Affairs Leadership for the Immunology strategy, plans, initiatives and to the countries in the region.
The role is a member of the cross functional IM immunology regional leadership team with shared accountability for the relevant IM immunology objectives and working closely with this team to achieve them. The Medical Lead Dermatology is also a member of the global Medical Affairs community with an expectation to contribute to the advancement of Medical Affairs strategy and capability in the IM region.
The role reports to the Head of Immunology, International Markets.
As theMedical Lead Dermatology, International Markets, you willcontributeby:
- Driving the dermatology medical strategy for IM and providing leadership contribution to the immunology International Markets regional team
- Drive the Medical strategy for the dermatology and input into the cross-functional strategy by translating science into value for patients and business, for in line priorities and lifecycle strategy; contribute to the overall strategy for the region
- Actively represent the region in the immunology Missions: provide regional insights and contribute to shaping global strategy, ensure key regional needs are considered – advocate for value creation in IM, and take ownership of medical global strategy to be cascaded into the region
- Act as the primary Medical input into decision/ development of strategic projects/initiatives (eg digital, business development, innovative collaborations, etc) and business cases at the IM regional level
- Drive the medical component of the Patient Value Brand Plan process in close collaboration with the IM Marketing and Access leads
- Be a Medical & Scientific subject matter expert and educator for dermatology with internal stakeholders and collaborate with external medical experts to support better patient care
- Act as the primary Medical dermatology interface of the region with EU and US immunology teams in common projects and sharing best practices in a structured, value creating way
- Foster outside-in scientific innovation and partnerships
- Actively contributes and has a shared accountability for the IM immunology objectives
Provide Medical leadership and strategic direction to the IM countries’ medical teams- Deliver and translate the global & regional immunology strategy and PVBP to the IM countries ensuring clear understanding of the medical components and the cross-functional context, with focus on launch preparation and execution
- Champion the mindset & execution of early, proactive, strategically focused and impact driven medical plans & deliverables for the assets across the medical teams in the IM countries (as part of the PVBP)
- Drive and engage the regional IM dermatology medical and scientific communities with dedicated forums to share experiences/challenges/learnings; collect insights and foster capability development
- Drive the medical exchanges with the IM countries through direct interactions with the Medical teams and through the cross-functional Business Exchange Review meetings co-organized by the IM PVU Heads. Drive any follow up of medical activity/actions coming out of these reviews
- Ensure high scientific and medical standards & input into specific cross functional deliverables: asset/ patient population strategy, patient value brand plans, by providing scientific guidance and direct support to affiliates (eg medical plans, speaker tours, internships, congress participation, medical learning, etc)
- Define the scientific & medical training needs, objectives and the annual training plan at regional level and coordinate execution with Learning & Development
Drive regional level key strategic projects/ deliverables- Drive evidence generation (eg RWE, registries) plans at the regional level and ensure timely publication and communication of the resulting data
- Drive and execute the medical external stakeholders’ engagement plans for the regional level fostering partnerships; provide Medical & scientific subject matter expertise in external medical engagements.
- Drive the objectives and help facilitate the regional congresses (eg APLAR, ASP) together with the regional Marketing Lead and in support to the local affiliate where the congress will be held
- Actively represent IM region at the global Clinical Development and study site Engagement Teams meetings and liaise with the local affiliates on the clinical programs
- Partners with the Marketing neuro/rheum/derm lead for the planning of medical deliverables at the regional level and provides input into cross-functional ones;
Interested? For this position you’ll need the followingeducation, experienceandskills:
Medical Degree (M.D.) or Qualified Pharmacist (Pharm.D)- Substantial Medical Affairs experience within the pharmaceutical industry, (5-8+ years in senor position) in the respective therapeutic areas (dermatology) or similar experience, ideally in both global and local operations
- Proven track record of driving medical strategies and contribution to commercial, clinical development strategies
- Successful track record of initiating and leading cross-business/cross-functional planning, collaborating and solution building
- Experience of leading people and working with cross functional and matrix teams
- Solid peer relationships with and exposure to external scientific/ clinical experts, professional & regulatory bodies, pharma associations; demonstrated ability to proactively engage internal and external leaders and serve as a medical expert
- Solid knowledge of pharma environment and healthcare ecosystems and relevance for the business
- Demonstrated experience of governance activities and their pragmatic implementation
- Lead with executive presence and positively influence performance excellence and innovation across all level of the organization
- Mentorship and coaching: apply situational leadership and act as a coach and mentor to develop team members within medical and cross functionally. Leads by example.
- Leads with and demonstrates strong emotional intelligence, integrity, business acumen, humility, respect, transparency and executive presence; Cultural sensitivity a must
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, establishes trust and partnership; collaboration with cross-functional leadership, country and global colleagues and external stakeholders; can mobilize cross-functional teams and tap into the resources of the organization to get things done
- Strong strategic acumen, good business acumen and anticipation of industry trends
- Mastery of therapeutic area knowledge and corresponding UCB assets
- Superb communication skills and the ability to articulate complex subjects with clarity, ease and executive presence (good story telling skills)
- Strong understanding of clinical development and clinical study management processes as well as real world evidence generation plans and practices
- Ability to critically analyze complex data; Strong analytics and insight driven
- Excellent planning and organizational skills - Strong project leadership and management skills, including projects managed and delivered via a matrix organization,
- Performance driven - Ability to measure performance and produce management reports with KPI and metric development, deployment and oversight
- Strong Negotiation, influencing and conflict resolution skills
- Adaptability … Comfortable working with complexity in a fluid environment
International travel is expected and is ordinarily around 25-30%; (currently under re-assessment in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and new ways of working).
