JOB PURPOSE

The Global Advanced Process Development Principal Development Engineer leads extrusion projects that involve new and transferring existing process technology across the business groups to enable short- and long- term Growth strategies. The efforts are intended to continuously enhance Amcor’s differentiated capabilities and enable growth in key markets and products globally. In this role, the Principal Development engineer may be responsible for technical support in scope and design phase of a capital project, collaborate on capital justification, sharing technical expertise and lead or support training that may be required. The role also involves working closely with Procurement and collaborating with external vendors to make technology recommendations that align with the Global Growth Strategy. This role will contribute to global share point sites to enhance process learning by sharing technical breakthroughs, key equipment contacts, technical presentations and best practices.


JOB DIMENSIONS & SCOPE

  • Subject matter expert (SME) in Extrusion; specifically targeting experience in Shrink (Triple and Double bubble) and other Orientation processes such as In-line MDO, Cast MDO, Tenter-frame, etc.
  • Accountable for identifying new emergent technologies or modifying existing assets that support Amcor Strategic plan
  • Accountable for global support on advanced process development technologies with Flexibles Business Groups
  • Responsible for sharing technical expertise within and across business groups to advance technical acumen and support technology transfer
  • Responsible for communicating and documenting work in order to share complex information beyond core team/function
  • Collaborate with external vendors and propose technical programs to advance Amcor Extrusion capabilities

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES


  • Leadership
    • Develop and maintain a safety culture within the specific process platforms and beyond.
    • Develop, coach and lead teams including day-to-day supervision and continuous training to advance team’s portfolio development and execution.
    • Create documentation and training materials for leveraging and sharing process expertise globally
    • Leverage market and business intelligence thru BG’s/BU’s strat or MGPP plans and identify trends and emergent technologies in order to enable growth
    • Guide large-scale process development activities for an assigned business unit, market or technology.
    • Partners in collaboration and execution across departments via R&D Innostreams.
  • Process Development and Execution
    • Define processes and milestones that align projects to our strategy.
    • Collaborate closely with R&D and Extrusion subject matter experts to understand extrusion technologies needed to unlock growth
    • Generate new, workable ideas to contribute to Extrusion process pipeline
  • Operational Excellence
    • Support the development of BG capabilities in developing and maintaining process capabilities for technologies that are new to them or capabilities requiring targeted, escalated support to sustain maximum efficacy.
    • Leverage and share foundational understandings of material / polymer properties and equipment capability in order to meet customer needs
    • Enhance process knowledge and skills by sharing technical presentation and best practices in an effort to grow a culture of continuous curiosity and learning with an impact to the global business.

    • Partner with manufacturing to solve escalated process manufacturing disruptions, ensuring sustained learnings to maintain the gains realized through direct support.
    • Use advanced knowledge of materials and processes to influence design solutions across the organization
    • Continuously work to advance specific process capabilities in combination with materials knowledge to deliver differentiated solutions

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS


  • Formal Qualifications and Experience
  • Undergraduate degree required. (Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science or other related area preferred.) PhD or a Graduate degree is strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience with demonstrated, progressive success in a technical capacity within a global manufacturing environment.
  • Expertise in multiple technologies/processes leveraged to deliver value to the organization and business relationships
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully executing a Capex investment project from concept to close
  • Demonstrated successful experience in building global working relationships across a matrix organization
  • Six sigma certification/training preferred.
  • Previous experience in developing and deploying tools, templates and processes supporting business needs
