Context & Mission

Product Engineering at Atlas Copco consists of 6 Product Development teams, with the vacancy located in the product development team of Oil Injected Screws, Airtec Core Components division. 25% of Atlas Copco’s sales come from oil-injected screws. The screw compressor element is the heart of the compressor converting mechanical energy to compressed air.

Preferred profile is a technology engineer/developer with expertise in fluid dynamics to join our mission to develop and improve various types of compressor elements and vacuum pumps.

Product development, testing, and manufacturing are mainly done on site in Wilrijk , Antwerp , Belgium.

Team

You will be a member of the oil injected screw product development team and join their mission to develop and improve the Oil Injected Screw (OIS) compressor elements and provide expertise and support to integrate the OIS designs into a complete compressor unit. This team consists of 19 colleagues, including several project leaders, designers, technology and calculation engineers who are dedicated to the development of state-of-the art compressor elements.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• After your initial training you will have the opportunity to take ownership and responsibility in your field of expertise.
• You translate the functional product specification into design parameters for the OIS, using our industry-leading expertise, by setting up the required test programs to identify further improvements. Together with a test team, you define the test plan, analyze test results, make recommendations for further improvement and qualify whether the product meets the specifications.
• You develop new products, new elements for compressors based on customer specifications.
• You’ll build up expertise on parameters influencing OIS performance, as a member of the OIS competence team, by relying on test results and calculations. You’ll advice to optimal design and use of the oil injected screw.
• You remain up to date with the latest developments with respect to modeling, measuring and simulating the performance of the product. You identify opportunities to improve and/or expand our current calculation models and tools.
• You participate in challenges: how can Atlas Copco design to work more cost-efficiently and energy-efficiently? How can we improve, challenge the status quo, pave the way, break paradigms, …?

Educational, Experience and Knowledge requirements

• You have a Master of Engineering Science or Master of Science (mechanical engineering, electromechanical engineering, …). Having acquired a Ph.D. in this domain is an advantage.
• Demonstrated mechanical experience in product development / technology development.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• You communicate fluently in English.
• Experience with oil injected screw compressors or compressors in general is not required, but an advantage!

• You work in 38.33 hours/week
• Flexible working hours: you choose when you start between 6.30 am and 10.00 am. Your working day will end between 2.45 pm and 6.15 pm. General flexibility: there is also a lot of flexibility outside these flexible hours. If overtime is worked, these hours can be compensated.
