The host pathogen and immunology team within Infectious Diseases, Discovery Biology at Johnson & Johnson/Janssen is seeking a talented and highly motivated senior Scientist to contribute to our drug discovery and translational research through multidisciplinary approaches focusing on immune-based therapeutics. The qualified candidate will join a diversified team of scientists in a fast pace and science-driven environment aiming to discover and develop novel medicines for the treatment of infectious diseases. In this role, the Senior Scientist will contribute to forming the research strategy towards the functional cure of infectious diseases like hepatitis B and pathogen induced lung diseases. You will design and implement and supervise studies for research projects that have a direct effect on business results within R&D. You will have extensive interaction with internal and external colleagues as a member of global multidisciplinary team whose aim is to identify and validate novel targets and discover novel treatment approaches. Key Responsibilities Conceptualization/Creation and Execution Develop in vitro or ex vivo functional models to evaluate immunotherapeutic approaches against pathogens Independently design and manage in vitro/in vivo studies. Evaluate new immunologic targets, therapeutic concepts, and therapeutic agents Identifies, originates, and executes new project ideas in area of expertise Identify potential areas for improvement in existing practices and propose recommendations Manage collaborative research interactions across teams internally and with external academic and industry partners Work efficiently as a team member as well as independently to support research goals Follows best established procedures and provides recommendations to conduct research Information Management and Communication Sets priorities for experimental work to ensure adequate progress of team projects and objectives Contribute to scientific reports, prepare presentations, and share results at internal and external meetings Degree of Supervision/Degree of Autonomy Works under limited supervision with a high level of autonomy May supervise/manage non-Ph.D. scientists Innovation Analyzes complex issues and significantly improves, changes or adapts existing methods and techniques. Develops research solutions that require extensive analysis and detailed investigation Qualifications A Ph.D. degree is required, in immunology, cellular biology, molecular virology or a related field with at least 5 years of post-doc experience or Master’s degree with more than 10 years’ experience in industry setting. At least 3 or more years of experience in an industry setting is preferred Hands-on experience with immunology is required. Hands-on experience of single cell analysis technologies is preferred Demonstrated expertise in cell and molecular biology techniques including isolation and culturing of primary cells, functional cellular assays, immune phenotyping by multiparameter FACS, qPCR Previous experience with in vivo models and ex vivo analyses is preferred. Proficiency in data analysis and presentation tools such as GraphPad Prism, Excel and/or FlowJo is required Capability of working in cross-functional R&D teams is required Track record of relevant peer-reviewed publications is required Excellent organizational and time management skills is required Excellent communication skills in a diverse multicultural environment is required Primary Location Belgium-Antwerp-Beerse- Organization Janssen Pharmaceutica N.V.
