In Belgium, Alstom is active in the design and manufacture of equipment, electrical and electronic systems for rolling stock and railway signalling. Alstom Belgium has developed two centers of excellence: one for traction systems including auxiliary converters and low voltage cabinets, and the second for signalling systems for main lines and ETCS (European Train Control System) / ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System).

Alstom Belgium also offers the operators its expertise in maintenance services and renovation. The Alstom Belgium teams have a good knowledge and reputation in the global project management. About 1000 employees are working on more than 100 projects all over the world. The company pursues a growth strategy by investing about 18 million a year in R&D with 100 positions in the research.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountable for:

• Consolidating application engineering activities, with proper Carry-Over, for projects (Train and Signalling )
• Producing application engineering documentation (electrical and mechanical drawings, bill of materials, installation drawings) for projects
• Ensuring understanding and application of the engineering rules, processes and tools (multi-domains).
• Ensuring that design reviews (multi-domains) are prepared and documented as per the project schedule and to follow-up the main open actions.
• Ensuring proper collaborative work with other metier/department
• Ensuring adequate resources are appointed to the projects/programs/tenders allocated to the Site.
• Defining mitigation plans covering a risk identified on the scope.
• ECA: Producing the conformity files with Railways requirements (Standards, directives, …..).
• SIMU: Producing the calculations of mechanical and thermal validation of assembled or welded mechanical structures.
  
  

Responsible for:

• Managing the development of the team to ensure the adequacy of the capacity vs workload vs skills and the transfer of activities if needed.
• Implementing an organisation to ensure the proper management activities under Site responsibility.
• Managing forecast workload, based on hypotheses provided by Workload Manager and identifying necessary resources to secure QCD commitments.
• Supporting the other stakeholders (industrial, SLI, sourcing, validation etc.) in the understanding of the processes (multi-domains) and actions in particular with regards to the interfaces between teams.
• Applying and following-up the People Management Cycle on time for the team according to N+1 and HR instructions
• Supporting the team in the resolution of issues and challenging actions (multi-domains) in particular those involving other stakeholders (internal or external).
• Reporting on activities progress and alert the relevant N+1 in case of main issue (capacity, skills, rule applicability, etc.).
• Validating relevant documents
• Signalling issue and/or making proposals to Central Engineering that would contribute to continuous improvement of the Metier.
• Sub-contracting of activities when needed/instructed

Qualifications & Skills:

• Desired knowledge / Experience:
• Mechanical and Electrical Engineering applied to Railway products (or Automotive domain or Aerospace domain) with 5+ years of experience
• Experience of 5+ years team management
• Good Communications and interpersonal skills
• Conflict Management and multitasking
• Customer Focus / Management skills
• Structured and organised with Hand-on approach
  
  

Language skills: Fluency in French and English.

Team size

• Direct hierarchical reporting: 60 persons
• Total team: up to 100 engineers/technicians
