Role purpose
The Revenue Controllers liaise with Partners and Lawyers to ensure bills are issued on time and accurately, and to ensure the firm adheres to client agreements, VAT and other relevant regulations. In this role you will be responsible for assisting in controlling the Belgian offices "Work In Progress" asset (unbilled fees) and ensuring that both Partners and Clients receive accurate and timely financial information.
Role and responsibilities
Revenue management
- You will meet with Partners at least once a month to review current matters and ensure that the necessary invoicing information is provided;
- You will assist with the opening of Client files (review of engagement letters, review of financial and tax information, set-up of the file for finance and tax purposes in the accounting system);
- You will prepare and process bills to ensure time and disbursements are accurately charged and allocated (time transfer, time write off, dispatch of billing guides, disbursements, queries, etc);
- You will provide technical support (finance system) to Partners, Lawyers and Personal Assistants;
- You will keep Partners and Clients advised on a regular basis of how fees are being accrued;
- You will manage Working-Capital – regularly and proactively review Client revenue and net investment balances (unbilled fees and unpaid Client invoices), ensuring prompt action to maintain optimum working capital hygiene;
- You will analyse current billing and profitability information and other items of a complex nature for reporting and problem-solving including conducting profitability analyses of individual matters.
Marketing/Sales
- On request from Marketing, you will provide timely, accurate and relevant financial information and verify proposals, pitches, etc;
- You will deliver, design and prepare Client financial information and ad hoc Client reviews.
Relationship Management
- You will develop close relationships with Partners, Personal Assistants, and the Business Development & Marketing and the local and global Finance teams;
- You will establish good working relationships with the offshore Shared Services Center Finance Teams (Revenue, eBilling and Credit Control).
Who we are looking for
- You have a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in administration-related fields (secretarial, accounting, law etc) or another relevant discipline;
- You have an excellent command of English (written and spoken) as well as Dutch and/or French (with at least a good understanding of the other language);
- You have excellent computer skills (MS Office, especially Excel), knowledge of billing systems (including e-billing) is a plus;
- You have a good numeracy and literacy skills, as well as an analytical mind;
- You enjoy working and contributing to a team but you are also capable of working autonomously in a highly professional environment;
- You are proactive and have strong organisation skills;
- You are able to work under pressure and multi task to meet deadlines;
- You are able to build strong relationships with your stakeholders within the firm;
- You are able to assimilate large amounts of information quickly and interested in a rapid learning curve;
- Experience within a Finance role is an asset and experience with working capital (billing or credit collection) is a plus.
