Context of the opportunity

To support the deployment and industrialization of many of the Group’s new solutions (construction of H2 Giga Factory, steel production decarbonization processes) around the world for our customers, the industry sector has created a new activity: Industrial Project Services (IPS).

This team is responsible for supporting our development teams in the industrialization of their new solutions, managing the construction of these new factories, and supporting them in the management of these large-scale projects. And more specifically for the services related to the estimating, detailed design, sourcing, project management, quality insurance and construction of these facilities all over the world.

The IPS department is responsible for offering and implementing EPCM industrial projects. The scope of activities begins at the preliminary design stage and ends at the start-up, which coincides with the start of commercial operation of the plant.

To strengthen the development of these activities, John Cockerill is looking for a new Junior Project Engineer for the IPS Team. The position is based at the Seraing headquarters in Belgium.

Key responsibilities

You will have to design and develop our technical solutions in response to the needs of our customers.

You respect the schedule and respond to urgent requirements and requests from management and/or customers.

During Lead To Order Process

More specifically, the Junior Project Engineer assists the Technical Project Manager in his duties for the sales and the realization of the project they are in charge of during both Lead to Order and Order to Cash process with the following objectives:

  • Respect sales processes
  • Draw up the cost price, the technical bid, and the technical specifications
  • Checking of the layout plans and diagrams
  • Defining of the extent of the supplies and services
  • Defining of the performances
  • Defining of the clarifications of technical deviations from the tender specifications
  • Updating of the technical bid and follow-up of the modifications of the estimate as a result of the clarification conversations and meetings with the subcontractors, partners, and clients

During Order To Cash Process

  • Assist the technical management of the project, from obtaining the contract until the final acceptance of the installation, aiming to:
  • optimize the technical results specified in the contract.
  • stick to the project schedule, managing technical and commercial risks.
  • manage the budget and optimize costs.
  • Assist in the interaction with the customer regarding all technical aspects in order to obtain total customer satisfaction while defending John Cockerill’s interests in an appropriate way
  • Support to carry out sizing studies and equipment specifications according to the needs of our customers, be proactive, propose, if necessary, the necessary modifications to our customers by favoring industrial solutions for
  • the design, choice, and layout of production equipment.
  • the PIDs and PFDs,
  • functional analyses,
  • Participate in the technical choices of materials and equipment: configuration, use, sizing, etc., Monitor of the proposal BOQ’s and estimates, and control of internal and external interfaces.

Ensure adherence to

  • technical specifications entrusted to each contributor
  • conditions and specifications agreed with the client
  • standards / procedures (ISO 9000, ISO 14000, VCA...) and technical notes
  • Assist the coordination and technical management of the technical team (draftsman, designers, specialized engineers, etc.) as well as engineering subcontractors
  • Establish technical specifications for the purchase of equipment, support, and assistance for the technical comparison of proposals, technical discussions with suppliers
  • Participate in the choice of suppliers: Technical evaluation (definition of selection criteria (technical solutions proposed, respect of deadlines, costs, etc.)) and ensure technical management once orders have been placed (respect of technical work, schedule, etc.))
  • Ensure the follow-up and the verification of the engineering, the approval of the documents and/or the drawings
  • Integrate the safety aspect into its design
  • Support to produce operating methods (user manual, maintenance plan, or standard operating specifications for equipment) and adapt them according to the changes observed.
  • Participation during technical coordination meetings, Design Review meetings and follow up of action lists
  • Point of contact for mechanical erection and commissioning advisors on site

Profile

The Junior Project Engineer has a generalist profile. He/she must be available for temporary missions, sometimes on short notice, including international travel.

  • You have an engineering master (electromechanical),
  • You have a minimum of 1 year experience and less than 4 years’ experience in process design and engineering in an industrial environment
  • You have knowledge of electromechanical engineering (mechanical design, Control, PID...), understanding of product and interfaces management
  • You have knowledge of Project phases
  • Be comfortable writing technical documents
  • You are fluent in English (strong written, verbal, and proven presentation), French is a plus.
