In this role, you will work cross functionally— including with members of our Executive Leadership Team —on our highest priority ethical use issues across the company. You will act as an internal, cross-functional champion for human rights and will be responsible for developing and maintaining our ethical use policies that translate human rights principles into operational product use policies.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in understanding business and human rights obligations, an understanding of the potential societal repercussions of emerging technologies and lead a range of human rights risks. The candidate will have strong research experience and analytical skills to gather facts, assess patterns and recommend a path forward. The candidate will work with Sales, Legal, Product, and Security teams to implement solutions to assure our technology is used for good.Job Responsibilities
- Serve as Salesforce’s internal human rights guide and representative.
- Help build, implement, evaluate, and refine systems and processes for implementing Salesforce’s human rights commitments in terms of our product use policies.
- Conduct human rights impact assessments and other forms of human rights due diligence.
- Contribute to cross-functional efforts to identify strategies and solutions to mitigate adverse impacts of our products, policies, and other business decisions.
- Recommend on the human rights impacts of existing and proposed product-use policies. Incorporate research and partner expertise to craft new and/or update existing policies.
- Prepare product and legal teams on the human rights impacts of various products and features.
- Conduct and synthesize research on human rights risk.
- Coordinate with global strategy and sales teams to advise on human rights risks in various parts of the world
- Conduct investigations, implement our product policies, and identify product vulnerabilities and ethical risks.
- Help make sense of large volumes of information to resolve how global events may impact the use of Salesforce’s platform and its customers.
- Stay informed about the dynamic global regulatory landscape, industry trends, and internal operations.
- Demonstrated experience working in Human Rights, Policy, Tech Ethics or similar roles
- Deep global understanding of human rights and how they can potentially be impacted - both positively and negatively - by technology.
- Experience implementing human rights processes, for example under the UN Guiding Principles on business and human rights, within a technology company.
- Professional experience in international humanitarian law/peace and conflict, international relations, or digital rights/tech policy.
- Demonstrated knowledge about current conflict areas and threats to human rights worldwide, online and offline.
- Strong analytical ability- able to take a complex problem, synthesize detailed information from multiple sources, and construct nuanced top-line recommendations on the path forward for executives. Ability to consider an issue from multiple points of view and weigh the merits of all perspectives.
- Strong interpersonal skills- comfortable presenting ideas to teams and individuals in multiple formats, from slide decks, memos, to informal chats. You know that a huge part of communication is listening and making sure others feel heard. You are able to communicate effectively with different audiences and partners. You work well in diverse, cross-cultural contexts, and with people at all levels inside and outside an organization.
- Policy writing experience- ability to assess the pros and cons of various policy options and their potential unintended effects and pitfalls.
- Project management experience- measurable success in running complex programs from conception to completion. Ability to lead multiple projects and maintain high degree of organization.
- Strong understanding of the ethical challenges related to diverse communities in interacting with technology.
- Self-starter who works independently with minimal supervision, while exercising judgment in when to advance issues and seek guidance from managers and teammates.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to balance often challenging priorities.
- Proven track record to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle demanding priorities.
- Demonstrated cross-functional team influence.
- Fluency in languages in addition to English
