The team you’ll be part of

The Fixed Networks Division is one of the key divisions in Nokia focusing on making Ultra Broadband Access possible for all users in the world. The fixed access product portfolio consists out of Fiber and Copper Access technology. In both domains the ASIC and FPGA System On Chips (SoC’s) are the heart of the system, making it possible for Nokia to have differentiating products at the right cost points. Continuous innovation is required in the Fiber To The Home (FTTH) product line with next generation PON technologies.

The System On Chip (SoC) development team of Nokia Fixed Networks is based in Antwerp and the team is working on the next generation chipset that will be delivering the product innovations of the coming years. This team is offering students the possibility for an internship project in summer 2021.


What you will learn and contribute to

  • You can get a 6 weeks experience in a state-of-the-art SoC development team, being completely embedded in the day-to-day operation of an SoC project team.
  • Your focus will be on the validation of a specific subsystem of a SoC that will go in ASIC or FPGA technology.
  • You will start to learn the UVM (Universal Verification Methodology) verification environment used in the SoC project team.
  • You will need to understand the requirements and functionality for the specific subsystem that needs to be validated.
  • You will validate a design (in RTL language) applying the UVM verification environment (Using RTL simulator and potentially RTL emulation).
  • You will use code coverage and functional coverage techniques to get a view of the total validation coverage and quality of the design and verification environment.
  • You will use a bug tracking tool to flag issues to designers and will work closely together with designers to find root causes of bugs reported.
  • You will create verification test list documentation that goes hand in hand with the created verification test cases.

Your skills and experience

  • The internship experience is open for individuals or a team of maximum 2 students
  • Basic understanding of digital design aspects is required
  • Basic debugging experience with a hardware design language is preferred
  • Basic experience with scripting languages is welcome
  • Basic knowledge about UVM/SystemVerilog is welcome but not required
  • Basic experience with SW programming languages or modeling techniques or object oriented programming is welcome
  • Open for students that have at least a bachelor degree in Electronics or Computer Science
