About the function

You (supported by the other business developers) will initiate a CMK-overarching service platform including CMK’s expertise, equipment, testing and breeding facilities. Currently, CMK’s services are managed independent of each other, hence this platform will create both visibility and efficiency. The aim is to create more valorisation opportunities towards industrial and policy bodies. You will take the lead for implementation of the technology platform (i.e.including setting up an efficient workflow, creating uniform quotations, building an attractive webpage, …) and for proactively contacting potential customers by presenting CMK’s capabilities within this platform.

You will also be involved in general tasks of CMK business development, such as staying informed of the current scientific research of CMK; acquiring a good insight into the new strategic developments in the industrial sector related to CMK; and developing and further optimizing valorization-related communication tools (website, brochure, LinkedIn, Instagram...).

About Us

CMK unites top environmental scientific research, education and industrial cooperation from the regional to the international level to be an agent of societal change in a world where climate change, environmental pollution, health, resource depletion and safe food production are the challenges of today and the future. We focus on (i) fundamental, applied research and services, and (ii) an interdisciplinary approach with a close collaboration between epidemiologists, economists, biologists, lawyers, chemists and engineers, to provide an answer to environmental and social issues of high urgency through research and innovation. We focus on 3 research lines:

• Understanding influences of the environment on organisms;
• Developing and assessing sustainable clean technologies to mitigate influences of the environment on organisms;
• Monitoring, valuing and optimizing biodiversity and ecosystem services under different stress conditions, including climate change.
  

CMK is searching for a third business developer to strengthen its valorisation-oriented activities in the area of services. This vacancy is financed by both CMK and the Industrial Research Fund (IOF) of Hasselt University, which focuses on the valorisation of UHasselt research and technology. The business developer’s location is CMK / UHasselt, campus Diepenbeek (building D).

You have a doctoral degree in one of the scientific domains of CMK or you have a master’s degree in these domains with at least 5 years of equivalent experience in research valorisation or business development (or equivalent)

You have a clear understanding of the different research that is going on within CMK, and more in particular the working of a University Lab Environment.

You are able to identify valorization opportunities for CMK’s research.

Your profile shows complementarity to the profiles of the existing business developers at CMK.

You bring in a stakeholder network with added value for CMK valorization.

You communicate clearly and fluently in Dutch and English, both orally and in writing.

You can work independently, functioning within a team. You readily take on responsible tasks, where you show the necessary sense of initiative and drive.

A demonstrable affinity with the business world or an entrepreneurial spirit or experience with business development is a plus.

Experience with applied environmental scientific research (patents, licenses, contract research) is a plus.

Experience with relevant databases, regulations, national and European health/chemical agencies, international standard setting,... is a plus.
