EQUANS, the new name of ENGIE Solutions in Belgium, is looking for a Construction Manager (Offshore Wind) for Hoboken. You will be active in an international context, work abroad and offshore, and work during weekends.Your main role is to drive safe working in the Execution team and the management and control of all construction activities related to the outfitting of the substation, so that the required tasks can be executed in accordance with the specifications, the regulations and the budget. This role is performed through the coordination of the required technical/operational expertise from the Construction teams aiming at executing technical solutions responding to customer needs while preserving industrial interests in terms of costs, delivery, constraints and risks incurred.   • during preparation phase:
    • analyse the employer requirements, technical specifications, overall project planning and resourcing. Get familiar with the substation by studying the 3D-model and set up a plan of action and a detailed construction planning which will be implemented in the overall project planning
    • support the Engineering department by providing technical information with regards to efficient construction methods such as material use and the installation of large equipment onto the substation
    • output of the Work Preparation department are drawings, typical construction methods, work packs, master cable lists, master equipment lists, etc., which are the input for the Construction department. During preparation phase the Construction Manager supports the Work Preparation department with defining and setting up these documents
    • for the preparation of the work packs for the move-in of large equipment (e.g. trafo’s, gen.sets, tanks, electrical panels, etc.) the Construction Manager is responsible for the collection of all necessary documents such as, lifting plans, method statements, risk assessments, fixation details, etc. Work preparation will then compile these in a work package
    • starting up a good relationship with the EQUANS internal yard teams, project team, the EQUANS construction teams of simultaneous projects and the construction management teams of the joint venture partners. During outfitting of the substation there will be many overlaps, dependencies and interfaces with these parties. A well built up team ensures a pleasant cooperation in later stages of the project
  • during construction phase:
    • responsible for the safe execution of the project according HSE procedures and instructions. Together with the Project HSE Coordinator evaluating the method statements and risk assessments which are provided by the subcontractors. Daily tours on the substation to compliment workers which are performing their job in a safe way and point out unsafe work methods to workers and inform them about potential risks. Drive a proactive safety culture in the execution team
    • all activities on the substation are covered within permits to work. Close contact with the Permit to Work office on a daily base to indicate the simultaneous operations and instruct which activities should be prioritized. Spot check on a daily base if the works are carried out according to the PTW
    • responsible for organizing the works carried out as safe and efficient as possible for all parties on the substation. Daily coordination of all activities on the substations, having a clear view of all future construction activities and leading and motivating the complete Construction team is your main goal
    • the daily coordination meeting with the main supervisors of EQUANS, subcontractors and partners, PTW Officer and HSE Officer is an important tool for obtaining a good team spirit and safe and efficient working environment. Lead this daily coordination meeting and set up the minutes of meeting
  • documentation & reporting:
    • follow up and act on the information which is given via Safety Observation Cards (SOC)
    • proactive informing the Project Manager about projects risks and opportunities; support the Work Preparation department with setting up the technical work packs and responsible for the correct flow and follow up of these work packs from Work Preparation to subcontractors and from subcontractors back to QC and Work Preparation
    • make sure that the master cable list is sent to the cable pulling and termination subcontractor on at least a weekly base
    • follow up the reporting of the weekly progress of the subcontractors of all disciplines (within the EQUANS-scope) and convert this information to readable progress figures which you send to the Project Manager and Project Planner
    • verify output from IPCS that this reflects reality. Take action where needed
  • project closure:
    • responsible for a clear and neat handover of systems to the Commissioning department. During the period Commissioning is taking over systems and construction activities are not yet finalised, stay in close contact with the Commissioning Manager and the PTW Officer in order to detect simultaneous operations on forehand and take the appropriate actions
    • responsible for the follow up of punch items related to construction – closure in in field and Fieldwire
    • responsible for the follow up of the delivery of red lined work (as built) packages at the completion of a specific system. All red lining done before MC. LOAD OUT = DOCS OUT
  • change management:
    • monitor and raise any change to the client specification and/or subcontractor scope to project management and Procurement department
    • provide a clear overview of all extra works of the subcontractors to project management and cost control on a weekly base
  • external contacts: suppliers, clients, subcontractors
  • internal contacts: other departments

Do you possess the following qualifications & skills?
  • master degree in engineering
  • a solid experience in project and/or construction management
  • broad general technical knowledge and more specifically specialized in electricity and instrumentation
  • adequate knowledge of mechanical constructions, supporting systems,…
  • able to manage good relationships with the client and our partners while monitoring EQUANS’ interests
  • proven leadership capabilities: supervising a large team of superintendents, supervisors, foremen and electricians
  • decisive and persistent
  • excellent communication skills: English & Dutch. Knowledge of French and/or German is definitely an added value
