About The Eu-amif Project
EU-WEBPSI, a three-year European project, aims to develop, test and disseminate an innovative EU-wide WEBportal for information exchange and online collaboration between stakeholders involved in providing and using video-remote Public Service Interpreting (PSI). The project has a three-fold overall objective:
- harmonising minimal standards for public service interpreting in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders to guarantee high-quality language support and equal access to basic services for Third Country Nationals (TCNs) across the EU;
- facilitating more flexible use of PSI services at national and EU level by means of video-remote solutions that are more adapted to contemporary needs and opportunities;
- increasing the interpreting capacity for languages of lesser diffusion (LLDs) to reduce the current imbalance between interpreter supply/demand for these languages across the EU and safeguard better language support for and empowerment of speakers of these languages.
- a harmonised EU-model for video-remote PSI, based on minimal standards of interpreting competence, training and certification in combination with information and learning materials (8 e-training modules) accessible through the web portal;
- an accessible web portal for video-remote PSI (repository, training platform, booking tool and video-platform) that can be used across national boundaries;
- training of 60 applicants for international protection and recently recognised refugees as qualified video-remote public service interpreters for LLDs in 8 language combinations, enabling them to interpret across national boundaries.
The project will be carried out by a consortium of 10 partners:
- 3 Universities (Ghent University, University of Surrey and University of Vienna)
- 3 organisations involved in interpreter training & certification (AgII Flemish Integration Agency in Belgium, ISM Corum in France, METAdrasi in Greece)
- 2 agencies involved in the reception of applicants of International Protection (Fedasil in Belgium, Entraide Pierre Valdo in France)
- ENPSIT, European Network for Public Service Interpreting and Translation
