Development Lead
For Biocartis, it is important to have people in place who bring Development expertise and decision-making to the Life Cycle and vice-versa represent the business area in the function. The Development Lead takes up this role.
The key mission of the Development Lead is to safeguard project and program execution via
- Decision-making with respect to Development (Design, Industrialization, Bio-IT, LabOps, Product and Software Engineering), representing the functions in the Life Cycle as the primary point of contact for the function.
- Endorsement of Development resource allocation to the Life Cycle, in consultation with the Functional Head/Managers and peers within the function.
- The Development Lead is the gateway of information flow to the life cycle, to the project and to the respective function he/she is representing.
Accountabilities
As a member of the Lifecycle core team, the Development Lead works closely together with the Life Cycle Lead and other core team members for the successful delivery of the programs/projects against agreed and approved deliverables as defined in the approved business case.
The Development Lead works closely together with Project Management Office and the Development functional area to anticipate and overcome resource conflicts.
The Development Lead is representing the Development functional area in the business area and vice versa is representing the business area in the functional area.
In this respect, the role includes, but is not limited to, the following accountabilities:
- Provide excellent development expertise to the Business Area and Life Cycle core team.
- Escalate and address development issues with regard to the project and products in portfolio for the Life Cycle.
- Represent and speak on behalf of the function for decision-making covering all functional aspects that fall within the scope of the business area/life cycle/project, and vice-versa ensures that the Functional Head/Managers remain up to date of the latest project strategy and findings, and reaches out in case of conflict.
- Have financial & operational accountability for objectives of the life cycle with regard to the Development functional area, delivering on set KPIs.
- Maintain the overview of Development supply & demand requirements for the short, medium and long term and translates these into input for functional strategies.
- In consultation with the Head of Development, align individual objectives with the objectives of the business area, life cycle or project.
- Ensure optimized and balanced functional availability of resources versus demand within and across projects.
- Support the Functional Managers with the identification of training needs, and the implementation thereof.
- Lead the Development resources assigned to the Life Cycle based on his/her excellent Development expertise and empowerment to make all decisions related to the function (operational accountability).
- Ensure optimized and balanced availability of Development resources in line with project and program demand (financial accountability) through interaction with the Project Managers and Functional Managers.
- The Development Lead ensures that Development processes are adhered to within the project/program, and provides input with respect to business needs or improvement opportunities back to the process owners within Development.
- Participate in Project Cockpits, Life Cycle Core team, and Functional Leadership team to make and/or share decisions at project, program and functional level.
- In consultation with the Functional managers and Head of Development, align individual objectives with the objectives of the business area or project.
Profile requirements
- PhD in Science- or Technology- related study domains is required or similar through experience;
- Minimum 7 years of experience in medical device or diagnostics industry is preferred;
- In-depth experience in the respective functional domain in order to be able to represent the function;
- Experience with product development;
- Experience with project management and resource planning is required;
- Experience in a similar role is preferred;
- Deep understanding and knowledge of the respective function incl. consequences on clinical and technical aspects of product development, customer needs, market trends and competitive environment;

- Legislation and regulation: knowledge of applicable regulations, most notably ISO 13485 and 21CFR820;
- PC skills:
- Applied knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- Knowledge of Project Management Tool (eg Smartsheet, MS Project)
- Languagues: perfect English (written and spoken), any other European language is considered an asset.
