The KU LEUVEN Centre for IT & IP Law (CiTiP) is a research unit of the Faculty of Law and Criminology, founded to develop legal knowledge in the field of ICT, digital media and intellectual property. The Centre is affiliated to imec (research group on security & privacy) and is part of Leuven.AI. CiTiP has over thirty years of experience conducting research into the legal and ethical aspects of innovative information and communication technologies, privacy and security, intellectual property and biotechnology, in both the public and private sectors. The Centre currently consists of over eighty full-time researchers involved in interdisciplinary projects financed through programs such as H2020, Marie Curie, FWO and ICON as well as through bilateral contracts. Project

As a part of the team of Prof. Dr. Jozefien Vanherpe, the candidate will conduct research aimed at contributing to a national, European and international intellectual property (IP) law framework that responds to the needs of the society in which it is embedded. The research will focus on one of the following research lines: (1) the interface between IP law and artificial intelligence; (2) the legal challenges linked with blockchain technology and the metaverse, or (3) the rethink of IP law from the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. In this context, intradisciplinary as well as interdisciplinary research may be envisaged. In addition, the candidate is expected to assist in teaching responsibilities at the KU Leuven Faculty of Law and Criminology in Dutch as well as in English.

Profiel

  • You are eager to learn and fascinated by the confrontation between new technological developments and IP.
  • You can creatively analyse legal problems in this domain of law and propose valuable solutions in a clear way.
  • Your challenge is to share your research and knowledge with others through academic publications and through presentations at top-level scientific conferences and workshops.
  • You obtained a Master’s Degree in Law with a specialisation in IP law.
  • You speak fluent Dutch as well as English, as you will be expected to contribute to teaching tasks in both languages.
  • Experience is an asset and can be considered.
  • You obtained excellent results during your studies.
  • You have good communication skills, both oral and written, both in Dutch and in English.
  • You are flexible and can work both independently and in a team.
