I-care Reliability is recruiting for a Full-Time Electrical Controls Engineer for a manufacturing site outside of Charlotte, NC. For consideration please apply directly.
- Process control and automation strategy – defining technology and standards, the roles of technology in our operations – its purpose, its value creation capabilities
- Develop, implement and monitor automation and control strategies and system architecture for the facility
- Works with other members of the control systems design department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality and improved efficiency.
- Provide electrical, controls and automation support to automation projects, plant process, packaging and utility operations
- Assist corporate engineering and plant engineering with automation projects
- Enhance maintenance processes through equipment and systems analysis to identify opportunities for equipment or process modification, equipment replacement, or application of new technology
- Lifecyle management and ownership of key systems – Vision systems, weight scanning, batching systems, HMI’s, networks, sensors, etc.
- Support plant maintenance and operations teams in system and equipment troubleshooting and in technology transfer
- Support of TPM and the PM Pillar by reducing losses associated with automation and process controls
- Support for, and deployment of, digital technologies that provide solutions for top losses
- Anticipation of equipment and software obsolescence, with corresponding mitigation of impact to in-service equipment and spares on-hand
Engineering Specifications and Standards
- Defines standards for commissioning of new controls and automation technology and equipment, asset health and performance monitoring, and operator/maintenance functional requirements and self-diagnostics
- Establishes sequence of operation & control system architecture
- Selection and specification of machine components such as motors, pneumatics, conveyors, sensors, etc.
- Develops P&IDs, reviews equipment specifications and line layouts
- Design and develop automation simulations and emulations when project requires it
- Create detailed documentation including but not limited to design input requirements, specifications, design of experiments, acceptance test and validation protocols, detailed drawings and bills of materials
- Designs low voltage (typically 480VAC and lower) power and control systems for automated manufacturing applications including control system panels, motor controls center specifications, safety systems, and automation network design
Leading and Developing Talent
- Supports plant-based Automation and Controls Engineers to effectively create value in the Non-Wovens Business
- Leads talent development, training, and builds open, trusting environment that promotes listening, respect, winning, and fun
- Communicates effectively throughout the network and ensures people have the right information to win
- Defining and tracking of technical skills required to manage our controls and automation infrastructure
- Building a training and development program that matches our controls and automation talent growth
- Defining and vetting strategic partners within controls and automation
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering
- A minimum of 6 years of industrial manufacturing/automation assignments and experience
- Controls and Automation – experience in transforming manufacturing facilities to an increasingly automated manufacturing environment
- Experience commissioning and troubleshooting new electrical installations including preparing electrical construction bid packages.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to build business cases and explain technical solution concepts to gain upper management alignment
- Ability to communicate technical issues to management and customers in an effective and understandable manner
- Capable of matching new emerging technologies with operational needs
- Evaluates solution options, including leading proof of concepts, to make a recommendation for industrial implementation
- Able to quickly analyze and implement improvements and then gauge their effectiveness
- Ability to deliver projects from a central organization into multiple facilities
- Strong working knowledge of the following manufactures process control hardware (Allen Bradley PLC5 and SLC 500, ControlLogix, CompactLogix etc.) for specification of the following
- Expertise in PLC I/O Modules (Point I/O, Flex I/O), PLC I/O buses (Profibus, Fieldbus, DeviceNet, ControlNet. etc.)
- Expertise in Allen Bradley Variable Frequency Drives and Motion Control
- Expertise in SCADA systems (Ignition, RSLinx, Wonderware, etc.)
- Expertise in Siemens Drives and Controls (AC & DC)
- Systems experience with Delta V and AspenTech IP21
- Control Reliable Safety Design and Implementation
- Safety Monitoring Relays, PLCs, Category 4 (TUV Certified a Plus)
- Expertise in Sensors and Sensor Software (Level, Pressure, Temperature, Proximity switches, Encoders, pH, vision, position indication, etc.)
- Proficiency in databases, networks, IT, 3D drafting
