Will you join us in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible?To strengthen our new Gene Therapy Bioprocess Development Department, basedin Braine, Belgium we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Gene Therapy Downstream Process Sciences Scientist .The Gene Therapy (GT) DownstreamProcess SciencesScientist will be responsible for supporting DownstreamProcessDevelopmentpilot-scaleactivities for UCB’s recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) gene therapy products . This individual will be accountable for the tech transfer, operational execution, trouble-shooting of rAAV pilot-scale activities conducted internally and externally .The successful candidate will be part of a team of process (senior) scientists supporting the establishment and operation of a development and manufacturing facility for gene therapy products.This role will be a scientific expert in the Gene Therapy organization at UCB and will start at a temporary site (located in Leuven) to support laboratory activities, and will travel periodically to UCB site for department meetings. This individual will function remotely during the design and build of the new gene therapy laboratories then will move onsite to support start - up and operation of the development labs when the facility is online at Braine l’Alleud . Prior to the facility start - up the candidate may also travel (10%) to directly support operations in the United States.Y Ou Will More Precisely Contribute By
  • Leveraging your industry experience in downstream process development, pilot-scale and manufacturing operation, and manufacturing investigation. Direct experience of AAV is not required.
  • Developing an understanding of AAV physical and chemical properties to improve downstream purification process.
  • Investigating and mitigating process deviations with support from the team.
  • Collaborat ing with internal cross-functional laboratories and external CDMOs .
  • Presenting regularly to downstream and cross-functional teams.
  • Supporting downstream small-scale development activities.
  • Author ing & review ing technical documents includin g tech transfer document, electronic batch records, process descriptions, study designs, SOPs, technical position papers, & technical reports .
Interested? For this position you’ll need the followingeducation, experienceandskills:
  • Masters (chemical engineering, bioengineer and related disciplines) with 4-6 years of industry experience with biomolecules (amino acids, peptides, proteins, virus, cells, or more). Direct experience with AAV is not required.
  • Technical knowledge of chromatography and membrane filtration.
  • Hands-on experience with pilot-scale and/or commercial-scale equipment.
  • Working experience in GMP environment.
  • Experience in manufacturing investigation.
  • Experience with data and statistical analysis .
  • Very good command in English, both spoken and written.
