Global Research Specialist (F/M)

Your job at INEOS STYROLUTION
As Global Research Specialist, you are responsible to translate the global customer and business needs to improved and new products from lab to production plant, you actively support the R&D projects and you follow and create intellectual property. To achieve these goals, you will head a team of lab technicians and operators and be responsible for an R&D laboratory and pilot plant. This includes management of people, assets, budget and operations.
You will be interacting with all relevant stakeholders for a structured transfer of R&D know-how and follow up until the new product/process is implemented. You maintain close contact with all R&D sites and manufacturing sites around the globe in order to cumulate and grow the global know how on your product portfolio. Your focus product portfolio are styrene-butadiene block-copolymers (SBCs) produced by anionic polymerization. You are willing to travel to meet internal and external parties as required for the job.

Responsibilities*

  • Global R&D expert anionic polymerization is assigned with R&D tasks on SBC topics within INEOS Styrolution. Those tasks comprise: improvement of existing product recipes, development of new product recipes based on business requirements, responsibility over anionic polymerization R&D laboratory and pilot plant, active support in R&D projects and follow-up of IP aspects related to SBCs.
  • You are actively running laboratory work with the support of lab technicians. In that function, you are actively interacting with all relevant stakeholders guided by his/her supervisor. You are active in a structured transfer of R&D know-how and is personally involved until the new SBC product/process is running or is implemented.
  • You direct projects based on anionic polymerization technology through a company-wide stage-gate process to deliver defined project results.
  • You actively supports the publication and adoption of research findings into practice (e.g. by supporting plan trails).
  • You turn R&D topics – approved by Steering Committees – into efficient lab programs and supervises the timely and high quality generation of results under highest scientific standards.
  • You maintain close contact to all R&D sites and SBC manufacturing sites around the globe in order to cumulate and grow the global know how on SBCs.
  • You have responsibility over the anionic polymerization R&D laboratory and pilot plant. This includes aspects as SHE management, people management, asset and asset change management, inventory management, budget management, operational management, etc.
  • SBC IP management: Competition scan, IP generation and follow-up of running SBC IP dossiers.
  • You identify opportunities in the public (funded) project landscape in Flanders and Europe and active participation.
  • Active training of anionic polymerization and related analytical state-of-the-art and relevant skills, e.g. via scientific literature, conferences, training etc.
  • You actively build a network with universities and service labs
  • Embeds sustainability into projects
  • You are ready to travel to meet internal and external parties within the responsibilities of the job

Profile
Level of education & Knowledge:
You have a degree in science (Dr. rer nat or PhD), this is mandatory. Experience in leading laboratories and lab personnel is required. Experiences in innovation / R&D management and IP matters are helpful.
You have a minimum 3 years experience in R&D (university, industry), this is mandatory.
Experience in general:
A scientist must have shown his/her capability to develop new products/solutions in the field of (preferred: polymer) chemistry and should be able to demonstrate outstanding achievements during PhD and/or post-doctoral phase
Technical skills:

  • Knowledge of INEOS Styrolution products, processes and technologies across most of INEOS Styrolution industries.
  • Actively supports the publication and adoption of research findings into practice.
  • Is able to apply the appropriate regulations and legislation pragmatically and proportionately to their work.
  • Good IT skills (mainly MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Dutch and English mandatory, German and any other language is helpful.
  • Understanding of process/engineering aspects (of pilot plants)
