Make your mark for patients
To strengthen our Asset Management Department, we are looking for a talented individual and self-motivated to fill the position of Global Infrastructure and Facility Expert based in Braine l’Alleud (Belgium) or Bulle (Switzerland).
In this position, part of the global technical and technology standards in global physical asset management, part of Global engineering and Facilities, you will be the reference in your domain for UCB worldwide and accountable for the development of a global strategy to be applied on all engineering projects and maintenance activities. You will ensure that cGMPs, SOPs, Company Procedures and Good Engineering Practices (including Construction Safety and Green aspects) are appropriately integrated in all UCB standards / guidelines / best practices you’re involved in.
In a nutshell, the Global Subject Matter Expert – Infrastructure, Civil Works, Finishes and Facilities:
- Defines, develops & deploys technical standards including Safety and Green aspects
- Defines strategy in his domain of expertise (civil works, architecture and fit out)
- Develop solutions including internal client (facilities, manufacturing, development, labs,…) expectations and needs (present and anticipate the future ways of working)
- Monitors technological developments in his domain
- Seeks opportunities to implement innovations in equipment lifecycle
- Leads and Connects a Global Network of Experts (in & out UCB)
- Be a proactive part of the technical project (CAPEX & sustaining) by deliver standard, expertise and perform technical reviews
- Be a proactive part of the Asset management strategy by developing (with the Global asset manager) gap assessment tools and methodology

You Will Contribute By
- Developing standards and guidelines in order to reduce environmental impact following our Green ambitions, reduce safety risks and harmonize assets. It includes:
- Design and dimension of Facility (including Clean Rooms)
- Review of different studies made by external parties (stability, soil, asbest,)
- Strong knowledge of all technical aspects of tertiary building
- Support permitting aspects (specific legal requirements)
- Make our buildings safety and Green by Design (using safety by design tools, BREEAM and/or LEED certifications)
- Ensuring the adherence to cGxP and EHS regulations and guidelines corresponding to related systems
- Developing and lead a professional network (internal and external to UCB) constantly assessing and seeking best practices for use at the site and for the broader UCB network (active participation at ISPE or similar networks is encouraged)
- Developing a Competency Matrix at a global level
- Defining, Developing & Deploying Technical Engineering Standards taking accounts regulations, business constraints, safety & green aspects
- Seeking opportunities to implement innovations in equipment lifecycle
- Promoting digitalization tools in your own discipline
Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:
Education
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Dipl. Ing./M. Sc.) or equivalent is required experience
- 10+ years of relevant experience in projects of different scale and complexity in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent
- Asset owner experience as maintenance and/or engineering
- In-depth technical experience in a regulated environment with knowledge of chemical, pharmaceutical and/or biological engineering operations
- Good understanding of the pharmaceutical industry not limited to technical aspects only
- Good understanding of EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) and Quality aspects
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Strong knowledge of cGMP/GLP regulations, ICH, FDA CMC, ISPE and PDA Guidance Documents is preferred.
- Recognized as an expert or leader in their specific field.
- Experience in Engineering Technologies supporting product development and/or manufacturing (both highly preferred)
- Knowledge of Bio Safety Levels requirements (up to BSL2) and its impact on own discipline
- Knowledge of BREEAM and/or LEED certifications in an asset
- An ability to take initiative and work both independently and in a team environment
- Dynamic person with strong value commitment
- Experience in large and complex projects as well as both formal and informal leadership / coordination
- Experience with EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) and EPCM (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management) contracting models
- Manages with a matrix of reporting lines and across functional areas
- Ability to share good practices and knowledge
- Can identify latest trends in the industry
- Can benchmark against peers in the industry
- Excellent communication skills (able to present to Senior Management) and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Broad Leadership experience for the management of internal and external resources in international environment
- Strong technical skills and the ability to explain complex issues and requirements in an easily understood manner.
- Ability to apply previous learning and ideas to new situations, projects and teams, developing creative solutions to manage risk to a reasonably practicable level.
- Strong technical, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and make presentations with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders
- Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently in a team-based environment. Able to both take direction and mentor other team members
- Able to translate customers’ needs in technical requirements
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and the ability to compose correspondence and reports
- Full professional proficiency in French and English (both oral and written)
- Willing to travel up to 20% (mainly across Europe)
