H2 SEP-PUR Design Engineer
Context of Need
John Cockerill has been acting as global OEM in the energy sector for several decades, delivering heat recovery steam generators, industrial boilers and solar receivers for concentrated solar power plant.
In order to support the acceleration of its developments in renewable energy solutions, John Cockerill has grouped all these activities under a specific entity “John Cockerill Renewables”, with its specific and dedicated organ ization. It has four activities : solar & thermal storage, hydrogen, Integrated Renewables Solutions and EPC.
The hydrogen activities are organized under a subsidiary called “John Cockerill Hydrogen”. This entity takes advantage of:
- Its current position as the worldwide leader in the manufacturing of electrolysers with more than 25 years of experience
- Complete range of integrated solutions for hydrogen production and refuelling stations
- Manufacturing capacities in Asia and Europe
- Integrated test laboratory for key components of electrolysers
Main tasks
- Gather existing knowhow on separator sizing and consolidate it on technical notes, calculation tools, etc.
- Lead studies for better understanding of biphasic fluid mechanics inside components of the electroly s e r separation p rocess , including:
- Select suitable software for CFD studies to perform internally .
- Carry out CFD studies internally .
- Manage and review CFD studies performed by subcontractor .
- Coordinate and review CFD studies performed by partners (Universities) .
- Define experiences to execute in laboratory (internally or externally) .
- Participate to experiences .
- Compare experimental results with CFD results for validation of models .
- Optimize the design of electrolyser components b ased on above studies
- Participate to t echnology watch on H2 electrolyser separation process .
- Participate to project execution as SEP-PUR design engineer , including :
- Analyse client specifications .
- Sizing of components in collaborati on with other teams .
- Guide the drafting team and review drawings
- Provide support to other disciplines, including support to project manager for clarifications with client .
- Prepare technical documents for RFQ of components, based on John Cockerill require ments , applicable norms and client specifications.
- Analy s e technical offers from subco ntractors .
- Follow-up of detailed engineering by subcontractors.
- Participate to inspections at manufacturer workshop.
- Presence minimum 3 days per week in John Cockerill office, located in Seraing. Possibility of 2 days per week homeworking after an onboarding period
- Occasional t ravel abroad for meetings with client or subcontractors , for inspections or for site activities .
- Mechanical Engineer
- Good knowledge of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) with practical experience i n biphasic fluids
- Good c ritical appraisal
- Autonomous
- Team player
- Good writing skills , able to work from a blank page
- Structured, rigorous, organised
- Knowledge in h ydrogen is an asset
- Fluen t in English
- Fluency in French is an asset.
