What does this job entail?

KBC Asset Management—the Belgian market leader in asset management—helps its clients to protect and grow their assets. It succeeds through teamwork.

As an analyst for investment strategies, you are part of the Investment Research team. Together with a team of thirty colleagues, you perform research into the financial markets and give advice on the composition of our investment portfolios. In doing so, you play an important role within the KBC Asset Management investment processes and have a direct impact on our investment results and client satisfaction.

Our vision, publications, web articles and presentations determine which investment advice our clients receive. Figures never lie, especially not when they’re based on the blend of fundamental research, quantitative research and data science we use. We have come a long way in all these areas.

What do we expect from you?

• You stay up to date on economic, political and financial market developments.
• You combine three different elements in your role:
• As a strategist, you concentrate primarily on economic research and a top-down portfolio composition.
• As a financial analyst, you put the focus on research into individual effects issuers. On the basis of your insights, you give advice on areas such as value and/or credit scores. Alternatively, you might specialise in sustainability research.
• As a quant, you immerse yourself in techniques such as optimisation, econometrics and machine learning, and their applications in the financial markets.
• Your analyses fuel discussions among colleagues, strategists and fund managers. They provide input for specific funds or for our broader strategy. You follow up whether it proves to be good advice so we learn from it. If there will be an impact on one of our portfolios, you work with the portfolio management team on the implementation.
• You contribute to the communication of our strategy to internal and external stakeholders, using articles or presentations. You also represent KBC Asset Management to clients, to the press, during webinars and presentations and in similar circumstances.
  
  

Your key strengths?

• You have extensive knowledge of economics, finances and/or quantitative analyses thanks to your master’s degree (or higher) and/or three to five years of relevant experience.
• You are a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or you’re looking to become one.
• You’re competitive, ready to fight for every point, but you still put the team first. You have no interest in outdoing anyone; your colleagues share in this conviction. We take responsibility for results as a team, share knowledge with each other, and support each other with tasks related to projects or reporting.
• You know that financial markets need to be watched 24/7. And that the advice you and your team extend has a major impact on the assets of our clients. You have no problems with this pressure. In fact, the responsibility motivates you.
• You express your opinions clearly in English and support them with strong arguments. (English is our working language.) You are also happy to enter into conversation with more experienced colleagues.
• You look forward to occasional travel to our international offices when the corona regulations allow it. When you’re at home, you keep your work with your colleagues moving forward smoothly by using cloud collaboration tools.
• You might know Python, MATLAB or another programming language. It’s not a necessity, but it will prove to be a huge bonus for your analyses.
