The Oilfree Air Division of Atlas Copco in Antwerp has set the aim to develop products that will de-carbonize the utility room. After several years of research, technologies now become available to convert waste heat back into valuable energy. Atlas Copco will reduce the use of carbon sources. The field of carbon reduction through innovative products and solutions is very active and to support the growth, Atlas Copco is looking for a Mechanical Engineerto join the Emerging Energy Conversion Team.

Mission

You participate in the development and testing of new products. You are responsible for the mechanical design of our products as well as the integration of our products in customer installations. You build physical Matlab models which you validate with a hands-on approach by testing in the lab and in customer installations. Data obtained via remote connectivity from customer installations will be used to enrich the models and create a lifelike digital twin. You develop and validate the mechanical design of the product. You evaluate and optimise piping conections, valves, pumps, supports,… in customers installations together with the application engineer. You investigate and safeguard the chemical and corrosion compatibility of materials used, from metals used in the construction over elastomers to glues and sealing.

You combine a focus on the mechanical engineering of the product with a broad interest in all aspects of developing a new product. You are eager to take on challenges that cover mechanical engineering, thermodynamics, electrical engineering, field data machine learning and remote control of the products. You verify the technical and economic feasibility of different designs. Together with all stakeholders, from the customer over the lab to production you use PDCA to develop solutions which optimise and balance energy savings, customer benefit and cost.

Depending on your knowledge and skills, we will offer you the position of project engineer or a position within the technology ladder.

Education and experience

• Master in Electro-mechanical engineering with a focus on mechanical engineering.
• Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink or similar software.
• Good knowledge of English and Dutch.
