Your role & work environment

We are looking for an Ops engineer to join us in one of ING’s squads responsible for delivering, integrating and maintaining custom solutions for the Sophis application, widely used at the ING’s Financial Markets for the trading, operations and risk management of derivatives. You will be based in Brussels and work in a multi skilled DevOps team, using the agile methodology to support production and deliver backlog stories based on priorities determined by our business and tech organizations and orchestrated by our product owners.

As a functional savvy Ops engineer, one of your key tasks is to be the first line of interaction with our users in case of any issue, functional or technical in nature. You comfortably handle all sides of IT service management such as incident, problem and change management. You proactively assure the application is running in a performant and reliable way. You are responsible for keeping processes and IT risk controls around Sophis compliant.

You act as a reliability engineer, providing others with the means to more efficiently maintain the application. Your deliverables assist in developing, testing, deploying, maintaining and proactively monitoring all Sophis native and custom developed processes. You give feedback to others on how to improve stability, performance and recoverability of all Sophis components.

Your key responsibilities

You have immediate user-facing interaction with our internal customers by undertaking a few morning or evening support shifts per week, during which you are responsible for troubleshooting incidents (alone or in collaboration with other subject matter experts) and for answering queries posted by our end-users.

You work on an application rated Critical for the bank, assuring SOX compliancy and the good management of IT Risk controls. You collaborate on evidencing the compliancy together with other squad members.

You strive towards automation and you assist in bringing us to full continuous delivery.
With a DevOps attitude, you automate IT Ops related tasks using good scripting practices and modern continuous delivery tools (from source control for your scripts to extend existing deployment pipelines within Azure DevOps).

The following items are vital in this:

• You use your experience to contribute to all sprint events and demonstrate your technical expertise during demos;
• Where possible, you take on tasks/activities that contribute to the sprint objectives, even when they are not entirely within your area of expertise.

Skillset

• Bachelor degree in computer science, or another area with strong IT background;
• Extensive experience working in an IT Support role (min 5 years), preferably in the banking domain;
• Good knowledge in SQL programming: syntax, objects utilization and optimization;
• Experience in delivering solutions on the Windows platform (Citrix, Windows servers);
• Experience in one relevant scripting language (PowerShell, VBA, Python);
• Comfortable with Agile and Continuous Delivery/integration pipelines such as Azure DevOps and their core functions;
• Good knowledge of ITIL processes and IT Risk controls;
• Experience on Finastra’s Sophis (Functional and IT) is a big plus;
• Genuine interest in Financial Market;
• Pro-active, assertive and a good communicator;
• Excellent verbal and writing skills in English (knowledge of Dutch and/or French is an asset);
