AI Engineer – Ghent, Belgium

My client based in Ghent, are searching an AI Engineer with a strong background in training large-scale models such as Large Language Models (LLMs) or similar architectures. This role involves close collaboration with hardware and software teams to optimize model performance across custom computing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, train, and optimize large-scale AI models, including LLMs.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure efficient deployment on specialized hardware.
  • Improve training efficiency, accuracy, and hardware utilization.
  • Implement distributed training strategies at scale.
  • Apply advanced techniques like sparsity, quantization, and distillation.
  • Use frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX, and Hugging Face Transformers.
  • Benchmark and profile models on custom accelerators.
  • Stay current with AI and hardware advancements and contribute to ongoing R&D efforts.

Qualifications

  • BSc, MSc, or PhD in Computer Science, AI, or related field.
  • Proven experience training and deploying large AI models (LLMs or similar).
  • Strong Python skills and familiarity with major ML frameworks.
  • Experience with distributed training and large-scale data.
  • Knowledge of model optimization and hardware-aware AI design.
  • Background in hardware/software co-design is a plus.

Location: Ghent, Belgium

Contract Type: Freelance
