Backend Developer

Chatlayer is part of Sinch, a leader in conversational platform technology. Based in Belgium and operating all over the world, we developed an easy to use Conversational AI platform that lets our clients build and maintain even the largest and most complex chat and voicebots.

We take pride in our machine learning models and algorithms, which we developed entirely in house. Our natural language understanding algorithms can understand more than 100 languages out of the box, even if you trained it in just 1 language. Our speech-to-text algorithm is paving the way for incredible voice-based applications too.

This is just the beginning. To bring our platform, bots and team to the next level, we need a Backend Developer who can create the seamless interactions that our users want. As we are part of Sinch, the architectures you think of and the code you write will be appreciated by many users on a global scale: We have deployed our application across multiple regions and are onboarding new customers all over the world on a daily basis.

The essence of the role

We work together to create the best experience for our users. We are allergic to analysis paralysis but we don’t mind testing out new solutions in real life: we dream big and start small, because a minimal viable feature is always better than a thousand words. We embrace the input of all those involved when building our product.

As our newBackend Developer you will:

• Develop maintainable, scalable, production-ready features for the Chatlayer.ai platform.
• Be responsible for making sure our chat and voicebots run smooth
• Integrate and maintain different voice channels: telephony, web, mobile applications...
• Build and integrate the different AI components which make up a voicebot: speech-to-text, NLP and text-to-speech APIs
• Mainly write TypeScript code.
• Perform unit, integration and regression testing.
• Actively keep your eye out for new and emerging frameworks that might add value to your code and deployment.
• Bring your ideas to the table to make building human-like chat and voice bots a reality.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone with experience writing production quality code. You like to stay up to date on technology and are eager to share your learnings with your team.

You will play a key role in bringing our platform to the next level. You’ll expand and build on top of the solid foundation of the Chatlayer ecosystem. Integrating channels and AI components into seamless chat and voice experiences.
With that said though, we are still more interested in who you are! If you like putting ideas in practice and thrive when your voice is heard, you’ll probably enjoy being part of this team! We want you to be curious and interested in modern technologies while at the same time being equally interested in our clients and the end users.

In order to contribute to this role you have:

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent skills, complemented with a minimum of 3 years working experience
• Solid and proven working experience in Software Development and architecture
• Experience and knowledge on Typescript and Node.js
• Working experience with Git and Git Flow
• Fluent in English
• Work independently and take matters into your own hands
• The ability to quickly learn new technologies and successfully implement them
  

Big plus!

You’ll stand out from the crowd if you have:

• Experience with Kafka, Redis or TimeScale
• Speak and write in multiple languages
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Python, GraphQL, MongoDB
• Notions of machine learning, speech recognition, NLP, text-to-speech
