We are currently looking to hire European Regulatory Affairs Manager - Energy Transition, to be based at our location in Diegem / Belgium.

In this newly created role, you will help define and execute our climate-related government regulatory policy strategy to support Air Products’ existing business and growth opportunities for Europe. You will be responsible for identifying emerging climate-related policy or business issues, developing policy solutions and participating in the development of government engagement strategies to ensure profitability and ease of compliance with finalized climate rules. Geographic scope includes supervising all relevant European supra-national, national, and local climate-related policy activities and engaging in-person as the need arises. This position will report to the Public Affairs Director – Europe working in partnership with the Director, Greenhouse Gas Government Policy and with business, EHS, operations senior leaders and outside resources.
As our European Regulatory Affairs Manager - Energy Transition, you will:
- Supervise, analyze, assess and promote new, emerging or needed greenhouse gas and carbon intensity reduction laws, regulations and policies for impact on Air Products existing and growth businesses.
- Effectively communicate Air Products’ position on emerging and proposed climate-related regulations by in-person verbal communication and formal written comments to influence desired outcomes – at all levels of government.
- Develop and implement climate strategies needed to protect, improve and grow business portfolios.
- Partner with client and stakeholder organizations to advise on the most cost-effective and business-friendly solution to climate-related issues.
- Lead corporate interactions with governmental agencies, industry associations and ENGOs that plan and lead common climate regulatory interests and develop cost-effective solutions to industry issues.
- Ensure full compliance with all lobbyist registration requirements and rules as well as model company Commitment to Integrity policies.
Your profile:
- Broad and detailed climate-related policy and regulatory experience at multiple levels of government in Europe, including in particular the EU. This experience includes the development and implementation of climate-related policies. Additional experience in government relations or regulatory development for other environmental media is a plus.
- Proven experience in a climate regulatory compliance or engagement role. Understanding of the design and operation of large-scale chemical processes. Specific expertise including industrial hydrogen production processes, as well as their underlying process chemistry is a plus. Be particularly familiar with the sources of, and design/operating aspects that influence emissions of greenhouse gases.
- Ability to quickly learn Air Products technologies, and business model to interpret and advance climate regulation or regulation development for best effect.
- Understanding alternative commercial models and the impact of alternative regulatory strategies on those business models.
- Ability to understand and advise on commercial contract terms as they relate to leading current and future compliance cost recovery resulting from climate regulations.
- Ability to identify the underlying regulatory objectives and develop alternative strategies that can achieve both the regulatory objectives while protecting Air Products business interests.
- Understanding of alternative carbon emission regulatory approaches, around the world (e.g., carbon taxes, production allocation systems, cap & trade, etc.), their strengths and weaknesses, and how they might apply to Air Products businesses interests.
- Experience representing industry to staff and senior management of regulatory agencies, government ministries and elected officials and their staff. Creating, leading and contributing to industry group advocacy collaborations.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field of study. An advanced degree in engineering, environmental science and/or law is desirable. MBA is helpful.
- Fluency in written and spoken English. Substantial capability in one additional major European language preferred.
- Ability to travel as required (up to 50%)
