仕事内容

John Cockerill Group develops large-scale technological solutions to meet the needs of our times: preserving natural resources, contributing to greener mobility, producing sustainably, combating insecurity and facilitating access to renewable energy. Its offer to companies, states and communities takes the form of services and associated equipment for the energy, defense, industry, environment, transportation and infrastructure sectors.

Driven since 1817 by the entrepreneurial spirit and thirst for innovation of their founder, the Group’s 6,000 employees have enabled it to achieve a turnover of 1.3 billion euros in 2018 in 23 countries on 5 continents.

Context of Need

John Cockerill is today acting as an OEM for either EPC contractors or Utilities companies. We deliver boilers adapted to gas turbines, industrial boilers, solar receivers for solar concentration power plant. We are present on all continents and sell on a worldwide basis. Our main offices are in Belgium, USA and China. As part of the decarbonization trend, we have taken a leadership position in the manufacturing of electrolysers for the industrial production of Green Hydrogen.

The development of the green economy, with its important challenges and opportunities, requires a specific organization. For this purpose, all our renewable energy activities have been re-grouped under “John Cockerill Renewables”, specifically Thermal Solar, Hydrogen and Integrated Renewable Solutions.

In a context where more and more private and public actors are looking to reduce their carbon footprint, while also optimizing their energy costs, within JC Renewables, the Business Unit IRS (Integrated Renewable Solutions), designs and offers turnkey solutions combining a range of technologies (storage, PV, cogen, energy recovery, H2, EV+H2 charging hubs etc.) to deliver the most efficient solutions from economic and environmental standpoint. The clients targeted by our IRS initiative are private and public players active in the industrial and commercial sectors. We are also very active in Africa (mining sector, cement plants, utilities…) to deploy hybrid plants (PV+BESS+gensets+EMS) and reduce footprint and fuel consumption.

Ultimately, we aim to offer Energy-as-a-Service solutions, by combining EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction), financing (with Cockerill Capital) and O&M (incl performance monitoring).

Main Duties

Operational management of project assets, test facilities and R&D activities for IRS:

IRS develops integrated energy solutions, combining multiple techno bricks. Closely related with project development and execution, we perform R&D activities to test new business cases, optimize design, deploy software solutions: monitoring and our in-house developed “Energy Management System” including intelligent optimized control of assets. We perform operational and R&D activities on MiRIS: our integrated microgrid at our Headquarters in Seraing, but also on external test facilities developed in close collaboration with clients and strategic partners.

MiRIS has been launched in 2018 and constantly evolving with new functionalities and technical bricks. It is a key development vector for IRS activities: it combines 2MWp PV, 4MWh battery storage (Li-Ion, NaS, redox flow), gensets, load banks, 90 standard EV chargers, 2 DC fast chargers (350kW+75kW), and it allows to develop and test our in-house Energy Management System in different on-grid & off-grid configurations.

The Main Duties Of This Role Are
  • Operational responsibility of MiRIS: performance, availability, financial KPI’s
  • Develop new projects and business models in close collaboration with BD & Sales, and Proposal team. E.g., ancillary services to increase revenue streams (grid services with batteries and gensets…), fuel saving for Africa market etc
  • Manage & coach the MiRIS team consisting of 4 FTE’s today (operations, priorities, safety, testing protocols, scheduling…)
  • Coordinate interface with the EMS team to develop and test new functionalities on MiRIS (forecasting, optimization algorithms, simulation models for battery and PV…)
  • Management and coordination of funded research programs
  • Search & implement subsidies for new test programs
  • Ensure the technical know-how of the team to assist on project execution (supervision, commissioning, monitoring during operations…)
  • Organize R&D activities: testing campaigns on different batteries, testing of BMS upgrades, offgrid tests…
  • Industry 4.0 approach on MiRIS and on IRS projects in execution (monitoring, automatic detection of anomalies, predictive maintenance… with dedicated tools)
  • Technology Watch: battery & power electronics: technical developments, pricing ratios, strategic sourcing etc
  • Develop & maintain relationships with key partners, external laboratories
Experience
  • Professional experience in electrical engineering (LV/MV) - automation is a plus
  • Knowledge of renewable energy and micro-grid including batteries, gensets, electricity (consumer list, single line diagrams...) and integration projects, is a clear asset
  • Background in TSO/DSO connections is a plus
  • Proven experience in operational team management, with a hands-on approach and a coaching attitude
  • Experience in project management for integrated and complex electrical projects (scope, schedule, budget follow-up, coordination, commissioning…)
Profile
  • You have an Electrical / Electromechanical Engineering master (Civil Engineer or equal by equivalence)
  • You have minimum 5 years experience in an industrial environment, preferably in the energy sector;
  • You have a proven experience in direct operational team management, and experience with matrix organization with other teams.
  • Experience in operations & maintenance, incl performance monitoring, is an asset
  • You can prioritize, delegate to your team, and have an excellent sense of organization
