Job DescriptionAs an IT Infrastructure Engineer, you are responsible to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the on-premises and/or hosted environment information systems that support core organizational functions, as well as to manage and tune them to ensure high levels of availability and security.You also participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.You apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of IT Infrastructure investments, as well as a working knowledge of the skills required to provision, manage, monitor, and decommission on-prem and cloud services.Your position has global responsibility, supporting North America, Europe, and additional regions across all Carmeuse locations. Your responsibilities Strategy & Planning
  • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for IT infrastructure and systems in conjunction with end-users and department managers.
  • Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
Acquisition & Deployment
  • Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to implement server and storage systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives.
  • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
  • Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services.
Operational Management
  • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Integrate servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.
  • Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfer in accordance with Business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, input/output fleet
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of on-premises and hosted environment computing systems.
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests for modified and new systems.
  • Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
  • Perform and test routine system backups and restores
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to Service Desk.
  • Promote within the Team implementing a structured way of working based on processes and procedures.
Your Profile:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, a related field, or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Fluent in English and in French (written & spoken).
  • Relevant licenses or certifications.
  • At least 3 years’ experience as an Infrastructure Engineer – working with 24x7 critical systems following ITIL framework and in projects, working with stakeholders following structured methods. 5 years preferred.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in IT Network- switching, routing, security (firewalls), wireless systems.
  • At least 3 years’ experience with cloud platforms (Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure). Five (5) years preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience with Windows Server, Active Directory.
  • At least 3 years with physical activities within Server Rooms / Data Centers (cable management, troubleshooting issues – knowledge on different physical media technologies: copper, fiber, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of troubleshooting layer 1, layer 2 and layer 3 issues.
  • Proficiency with entire network and security technology stacks as well as with other IT areas to be able to provide the best solutions from the IT point of view.
  • Good communication skills – collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders and be focused on problem solving and secure end-user satisfaction of our services.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience of technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards, including [VMware, Microsoft Server OS, Active Directory, Veeam].
  • At least 5 years’ system administration experience (Linux/Unix or Windows) at the command-line level.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in multi-tier architectures: load balancers, caching, web servers, application servers, databases, and networking.
  • Understanding of basic public cloud concepts
  • Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.
  • Extensive experience with core software applications.
  • Project management experience desired.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
