We are seeking a talented mechanical design engineer with strong expertise in micro-fabrication techniques such as 3D printing, CNC machining, and laser cutting. Familiarity with microfluidic components and systems would be an asset. In this role, you will contribute to multiple projects focused on the customized fluidic integration of silicon (Si) sensor chips. A systematic approach is essential, along with excellent documentation skills to develop test plans, compile insights, and create detailed manufacturing procedures.

Role Overview:

  • Design and implement mechanical and microfluidic components for the fluidic integration of sensor chips.
  • Define, test, and validate manufacturing processes for customized components using in-house lab facilities, while also identifying and coordinating with external processing sources.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments to test and characterize the physical behavior of fluidic integration solutions.
  • Effectively manage time and resources to meet aggressive project schedules and deadlines.
  • Collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team of electronic design engineers, life science researchers, and external suppliers to ensure successful project execution.

Location: Leuven, Belgium

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor/master’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, applied physics or other equivalent discipline with relevant experience in micro-fabrication prototyping for research or industry, preferably for life-science applications.
  • Proficient in using CAD design tools.
  • Knowledgeable in various micro-fabrication techniques, microfluidic systems, and existing device technologies.
  • Practical experience with lab equipment and device testing, with a passion for hands-on lab work.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and capable of processing data using computational or analytical software.
  • Experience working within research or development settings, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Communication Skills:You are a team player with excellent communication and reporting skills and fluent in English.
