Context of Need

The development of the green economy, with its important challenges and opportunities, requires a specific organization.

For this purpose, all our renewable energy activities have been re-grouped under “John Cockerill Renewables”,specifically Thermal Solar, Hydrogen, and Integrated Renewable Solutions.

In a context where more and more private and public actors are looking to reduce their carbon footprint, while also managing their energy costs, John Cockerill Renewable ambitions to design and offer turnkey Integrated Renewable Solutions (“IRS”), combining a range of technologies (battery energy storage systems, Solar panels, Cogeneration, energy recovery, H2, electrical or H2 charging hubs etc.) to deliver the most efficient solutions from economic and environmental standpoint.

The clients targeted by our IRS initiative are private and public players active in the industrial and commercial sectors.

Part of the IRS activities specifically at the responsibility of the R&D and operation team is the microgrid - MiRlS - which has been launched in 2018 and which is constantly evolving with new functionalities and technical bricks.

MiRIS (smart microgrid) is a key development vector for IRS activities.

It combines 2 MWp PV, 3 MWh battery storage (Li-ion, redox flow), gensets, load banks, and beside that 2 DC fast chargers (350kW + 75kV/), and it allows to develop and test our in-house Energy Management System (EMS) in different on-grid & off-grid configurations.

Main Duties

We, at Integrated Renewable Solutions (IRS), are looking for a detail oriented Microgrid Operation and Maintenance Engineerwho will be the responsible for the operation and maintenance of the assets of MiRIS site and the projects realized by IRS.

Description of function

As part of the Operation and Maintenance team for MiRIS site you will:
  • Make the functional descriptions of assets or sites, related to the needs of the operation and maintenance.
  • Create, maintain or improve the procedures and manuals for the operation and maintenance.
  • Be responsible for the safety on site.
  • Support the tests on the assets.
  • Operate the assets of MiRIS.
  • Organize the maintenance and perform the assets supervision.
  • Collect and evaluate the KPIs (performance and financial)
  • Do reports of maintenance and operation.
  • Do the costs and revenues logging.
  • Do the invoicing related to the different revenue streams and activities.
  • Do the purchase requests for equipment, spare parts, assets, etc.
  • Coordinate the activities with customers such as aggregators, or customers.
  • Support the communication with authorities.
  • Support the EMS team for the development of functionalities.
You will do the same for the projects of our customers, where IRS will be responsible for those activities.

Responsibilities

You will be
  • Responsible for activities above described
  • part of the IRS (Integrated renewable solutions) R&D and Operation team, but you may work with other teams too
  • you will be led by a responsible operations and maintenance engineer
  • you will be reporting to the R&D and Operations manager and when cooperating with project or technical project managers you will be reporting to project managers
  • working individually or in cooperation with technical experts and the Operations and R&D team
  • supported by IRS (Integrated renewable solutions) specialists
Profile
  • Master’s degree in engineering, ideally with electrical or electromechanics degree (or similar experience)
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance is positive, otherwise you will get trained by on the job
  • Experience or strong interest in the energy sector (PV, batteries, chargers, etc)
  • You have BA5 certificate or you will get trained
  • Basic knowledge of SAP or you will get trained
  • You are:
fluent in English, and French

proficient in MS Office

able to prioritize and have a sense of organization

at ease in international contacts and relations

available for temporary assignments abroad (in a future).
  • You have:
an autonomous personality, with an entrepreneurial mindset

and You aim for results, and you are not afraid to solve technical points
