The Departments of “Computer Science” and “Vaccine & Infectious Disease Institute” in the Faculties of Science and Medicine & Health Sciences, respectively, are looking for a full-time (100%) postdoctoral researcher,both in the fields offormal methods for biological systemsor quantitative (health) economics.

Position

• You will conduct research as part of an ambitious interdisciplinary research project on the use of AI techniques in simulation models for design of policies for infectious disease control, as well as assist in affiliated research projects of the CHERMID (https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/research-groups/chermid/research/), SIMID (https://www.simid.be/) and AnSyMo (https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/research-groups/ansymo/) research groups.
• You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
• You will work in collaboration with other team members and may occasionally supervise students.
• You will participate in the provision of academic services: you will represent the research group both internally and externally, help to coordinate service projects, and so on.

Profile

• You hold a PhD in one of the following fields: formal methods, quantitative economics, health economics, environmental economics or social economics and policy (or you will have obtained it by the time you start work).
• You are familiar with complex biological systems and models if you have a background in formal methods, and this is an advantage if you have a background in economics.
• You have good programming skills and are familiar with social welfare optimisation problems if you have a background in economics and this is an advantage if you have a background in formal methods.
• You enjoy working in collaboration with other researchers as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
• Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
• You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation.
• You can speak and write fluently in English.

What we offer

• We offer a full-time contract as a postdoctoral researcher for a period of 2 years.
• The planned start date is October 1, 2021, or as soon as possible after that date.
• Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for postdoctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
