To strengthen our Medical Affairs team within the Rare Disease Organization, based in our Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium or Slough, UK or working from Boston or Atlanta, US, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Rare Medical Operations Lead.

The successful candidate will strengthen our Global Medical Indication Team (s)(GMIT) in the Medical Rare Disease Organization and will serve as the Global Medical Indication Leads (GMIL) operational partner and team enabler to ensure cross-functionally aligned execution of medical strategies and tactics. While reporting to the Rare Medical Strategy and Operations Head, this individual will bring forward, to each indication team she/he supports, medical operations best practices that are consistent and structured to not only drive and track successful completion of medical tactics within the Medical Affairs Strategic Plans (MASP) and launch plans, but ensure impact by designing and communicating (in partnership with GMIT) regular KPIs and dashboards for each indication leading up to successful launch and post launch LCM of rare assets.

  • Ability to lead and take operational ownership of projects within GMIT without having direct responsibility of team members or partners you influence
  • Facilitate Medical Affairs Strategic Plan (MASP) development at GMIT which takes into consideration regional and local medical insights and needs and cross-functional (Marketing, Market Access and Development) implications that ensure we are developing robust medical strategies for a given indication
  • Work in diverse and inclusive teams building relationships and partnerships across functions and geographies to deliver high-quality solutions
  • Be an operations expert, a thought partner to medical experts and demonstrate passion that truly centers around making a difference in patients’ lives

You will contribute by:

Global Medical Indication Team Planning Leadership:

  • Partner with GMIL, Rare Medical Strategy and Operations Head, and as a core member of the GMIT, drive integrated MASP development on an annual cycle that drives insightful planning centered around rare patient journey and rare patient centricity to include 1) Global Medical Strategic Objectives, 2) Global Medical Tactical Plans with external Stakeholder engagement and partnerships, medical communications and publications, evidence generation tactics.
  • Ensure MASPs are aligned with cross-functional Global Rare Program Teams and their plans

Global Medical Operations and Project Management:

  • Drive successful and timely completion of GMIT deliverables including thought leader (TL)/ OL engagement planning and tracking, advisory boards, congress execution support, publication planning and execution support, evidence generation and patient engagement projects
  • Develop and track GMIT budget; partner with Rare program managers and UCB finance representatives as needed
  • Complete, submit and track contracting needs for GMIT
  • Drive goal setting and metrics development (and subsequent tracking) for GMIT
  • Identify team and program risks and implement and manage mitigation plans as needed (budget, timelines etc.)
  • Proactively plan and manage GMIT activities including team meetings, strategic planning, offsites, and team building
  • In partnership with the GMIL, identify, escalate, and monitor resolution of issues and actions
  • Support training and onboarding of new team members

Rare Medical Operations Support:

  • Support Rare medical operations initiatives as assigned by Rare Medical Strategy and Operations Head to enable the Medical RDO and teams to operate efficiently and effectively in the context of continuous improvement and medical excellence

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

Position expected at associate director level in biopharmaceutical industry and following education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or MSc/MS with 5 – 7 years of experience, PharmD or PhD with 2- 3 years of experience
  • MBA or business degree a plus, Project Management certification and/or change management experience a plus
  • Experience in Rare Diseases is plus but not required
  • Experience in Neurology or Haematology a plus but not required
  • Knowledge and understanding cross-functional matrix related to pharmaceutical drug development
  • IT savvy and analytical always looking to provide innovative solutions to medical team issues – excellent PowerPoint, excel and other data tools/applications. Quick learner of new UCB applications
  • Experience in contracting and negotiation and tracking of external partners and agencies is preferred
  • Attention and high level of emphasis to ethics and compliance guidelines and standards
  • Willing and able to travel (~20%)
