We are seeking a scientist to join our growing Teflon™ coatings team! This position will support the development of our global product lines and report directly to the Global Technology Manager at our location in Mechelen, Belgium.

As a Scientist, You Will
  • Plan and conduct research to develop new coating products and applications from ideation to commercialization for customer projects and growth platforms.
  • Lead and coach a team of laboratory technicians.
  • Collaborate with customers to discover unmet needs for specific industrial coatings applications, match requirements with product offerings and support the engagements through the technical development.
  • Work across a multi-functional global team to lead and prioritize project activities to ensure high quality and on time execution.
  • Provide product trainings, technical support and market insights to customers, distributors, sales and marketing teams.
  • Acquire a deep understanding of the coating landscape including raw materials, regulations, technologies and markets by training, interacting with peers, customers and at conferences and international meetings.
  • Follow all laboratory quality and safety standards and demonstrate commitment to continuous safety improvement and model good safety behaviors.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and ensure lab capabilities are aligned with future market trends.

Required Qualifications
  • Master/PhD in coatings, polymer science, physics, chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, or a related field.
  • Experience with coatings design, formulation and testing.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communications skills in English, both internally and with external partners.
  • Knowledge of Dutch is preferred and other European languages are a plus.
  • Ability to work in Mechelen, Belgium.
  • The candidate is required to travel up to 15% of their time.
  • Passion to learn new chemistry, materials, technical application and performance characterizations.
  • Outstanding creativity and a desire to solve challenging and complex problems.
  • Ability to keep accurate records of experimental trials and customer interactions.
