Senior GL Accountant

About the opportunity

Join Sanofi as Senior GL Accountant where you are responsible for the registration of all financial transactions and for filing required or necessary documents which result in financial reporting for internal stakeholders and external monitoring bodies. You advise management and produce financial reports based on accounting information. You coordinate operational activities with A2R team of Captive in Budapest (Hungary). Finally, you analyse financial data and accounts in order to prepare reports e.g. balance sheet, profit and loss statements etc.

In this diverse Ghent based role, you work for 2 entities of Sanofi: Ablynx (R&D) and the commercial site in Diegem. You will be in frequent contact with colleagues in other financial departments across the region and will be a key contact and advisor.

In this role, you will…

General

• Monitor and verify the registration of financial transactions (GL and sub-GL administration):
  • Execute balance sheet activities
  • Post transactions
  • Be responsible for correct allocations to departments and to products
  • Prepare and provide input for the Annual Account
  • Key contact for external auditor
    
• Recommend actions based on the analysis of account data
• Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analysing account information
• Be responsible for assigned month end activities
• Support overall Financial reporting and reconciliation activities (monthly, quarterly and annually)
• Alongside team, be responsible for financial filing activities
• Support Treasury with the netting cycle

Taxation, Central Bank, Intrastat

• Be responsible for compliance with tax legislation and other legal obligations, including for annual overseas VAT declarations
• Contact person for internal and external stakeholders on a range of tax matters
• Be an expert and adviser to the business on VAT matters (local, regional and global)
• Be responsible for and oversees the Accounting flows linked to product flows
• Key contact for Captive on VAT matters
• Direct the return of corporate tax forms

Internal control & compliance

• Maintain and apply accounting controls to assess and ensure that financial transactions, accounting records and financial statements are accurate, complete and adhere to relevant internal and external processes and controls
• Undertake self-testing activities based on relevant internal and external controls and regulations

Payroll

• Check payroll overview according to relevant financial processes and controls (including the salary, LTI and balance review and wage declaration)
• Authorize payment of monthly payroll

Projects & Support

• Actively participate in ad hoc projects, changes and improvements
• Be responsible for resolving Accountancy issues
• Support colleagues with more complex issues
• Provide training for new employees in A2R
• Coach and may supervise the work of junior colleagues in A2R

About you

Qualifications/Education & work experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a similar subject
• At least 5 years of relevant work experience in a multinational company within a highly competitive and quality focused environment
• Excellent accounting knowledge
• Knowledge of financial operations and structures principles
• Excellent knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger and statutory accounting
• Knowledge of IFRS and SOX/ Internal Controls
• Knowledge of payroll
• Knowledge of SAP and Magnitude or a similar system is a prerequisite

• Analytical skills and attention to detail, whilst able to maintain a broad overview
• Ability to work, handle multiple projects and prioritize in a deadline driven environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and take on complex new tasks in a proactive and pragmatic manner
• Hands-on mentality and result driven
• Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
• Fluency in Dutch and English (verbal and written), basic French preferred
