YOUR TASKS

The team of Prof Bryan Gonzales at the Unit of Human Nutrition, Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is seeking to appoint a Staff Statistician/Data Scientist who will play a key role in advancing the use of systems epidemiology and precision nutrition to better understand the molecular mechanisms driving nutritional diseases, especially affecting vulnerable populations in low and middle-income countries. As a staff scientist, you will be engaged in multiple projects working closely with our multidisciplinary team to analyze and integrate metabolomics and/or multi-omics data. You will be primarily responsible for developing and deploying smart ways to analyze multi-omics data obtained from cell culture experiments to large-scale longitudinal human cohort studies.
Responsibilities
  • Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze metabolomics and multi-omics data (i.e. causal inference, data integration, feature selection, and pattern recognition)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design experiments and interpret complex biological data.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in statistical methodologies and data science techniques. Participate in training courses/sessions and conferences to acquire new skills and knowledge.
  • Contribute to the development of data-driven strategies and solutions, including supporting MSc, PhD students and postdocs in their data-related problems

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master’s degree in statistics, data science, machine learning, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong background in statistical analysis, data modeling, and machine learning.
  • Demonstrated experience in the analysis and interpretation of metabolomics and/or multi-omics data.
  • Proficiency in R.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a keen interest in scientific research.
  • Engaging personality and highly collaborative
  • Openness to work in a multi-cultural interdisciplinary environment
  • Creative, self-driven and with a passion for learning
  • Experience working in low and middle-income country context is an advantage but not required


WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period from 1 March 2024 to 28 February 2025. Possiblities to extend this duration will be sought.
  • Your contract will start on 1/03/2024 at the earliest.
