About the Company

Groupe Florimond Desprez (GFD) breeds varieties and produces seeds to meet the needs of arable crop farmers, the agro-industrial sectors and consumers, while actively supporting the agro-ecological transition. The group mainly works with species intended for human consumption and is a world leader in sugar beet seeds, a leading European breeder of straw cereal and a major player in the European seed potato market. Florimond Desprez is an independent family-owned company founded in 1830 that operates in 65 countries, devotes 15% of its sales to research and employs 1200 persons. Groupe Florimond Desprez is headquartered in Cappelle-en-Pévèle, France. The Groupe FD IT team provides services and support to all the companies in the group, including United Beet Seeds (UBS), headquartered in Tienen, Belgium.

Responsibilities

Technical oversight:

-Making and overseeing critical technical decisions for data governance, security and compliance processes

-Optimizing data storage, processing and retrieval for performance and cost-effectiveness

-Overseeing coding standards, code reviews and testing protocols to maintain quality and enforce standards

Data platform architecture and design:

-Defining the overall architecture, including data lakes, data warehouses and real-time streaming solutions

-Evaluating and implementing suitable technologies and designing modular and flexible architectures that can handle different use cases as analytics and operational reporting

-Ensuring seamless data ingestion, transformation and integration from multiple sources

Team development and collaboration:

-Mentoring and coaching team members to enhance their technical skills

-Acting as a liaison between technical teams and business units to translate technical requirements into actionable tasks

-Communicating complex technical concepts in a way that is accessible to non-technical stakeholders

Continuous improvement:

-Implementing agile and DevOps practices to reduce development cycles

-Proactively identifying opportunities for process optimization and automation

-Encouraging the exploration of innovative methods such as AI and machine learning

-Maintaining scalable data architectures and infrastructure to support growth and adaptability

-Overseeing model validation, testing and performance optimization and keeping data move costs under control

Data governance and data quality:

-Ensuring compliance with data privacy laws and ethical considerations (e.g. GDPR, ...)

-Overseeing data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, integrity and security

-Ensuring data quality, consistency and accuracy across all systems and outputs

Team leadership:

-Leading and mentoring a team of developers with technical skills in diverse technical domains

-Inspiring and motivating team members by setting clear goals and recognizing achievement

Required Skills

• You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with at least 6-10 years of experience in data design and architecture design, with at least 2 years in a senior data engineer role.
• You have advanced knowledge of ETL/ITL pipelines and frameworks and expertise in handling structured, semi-structured and unstructured data.
• You’re proficient in designing scalable, distributed data platforms (e.g. Data Lakes).
• You have proven experience in programming languages (Python, R, and SQL).
• You have knowledge of real-time data streaming tools (e.g. Kinesis, Spark Streaming).
• You’re familiar with integration patterns (e.g. API, message queues, CDC).
• You have in-depth knowledge of data science concepts and machine learning algorithms.
• You have experience with big data tools and cloud technologies.
• You have expertise in DevOps and CI/CD, meaning you are familiar with CI/CD pipelines, containerization tools (Docker, Kubernates) and version control systems (e.g. GIT).
• You have experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, including sprint planning and backlog refinement.
• You have a proven interest or experience in a technical lead data role and are committed to follow up on the latest innovations for data analytics.
• You have experience in mentoring junior data engineers and leading teams of data engineers (+ 5 FTE).
• Experience in BOOMI is a plus.
• You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely to non-technical users (in Dutch, English and French).
• You have a proven interest in collaborating in multiple domains and working cohesively with stakeholders across product, engineering, data science and applications.
