UCB is seeking a passionate and driven graduate to jointhe (uDevelop) Graduate Development Program (GDP) in Pharma Sciences Chemical Process Improvement.The Graduate Program (GDP) aims to develop the academic knowledge of graduates through alearning and practical journey at UCB, which enables them tomake an impact in the business.

You will have the opportunity to gain experience within Pharmaceutical Sciences for about 24 months.The position is based in Braine l’Alleud,Belgium.

We focus on building a program where a UCB Graduate can work in collaboration with diverse teams in Pharma Sciences Department (Chemistry- Formulation- Analytical) and will be exposed to a set of unique “on the job” and formal trainings spanning a range of activities.

With this program you will acquire a broad range of professional experience and skills in pharmaceutical product development. You will have the chance to start your career in a global corporate environment and shape your professional journey in the pharmaceutical industry. If you are successful, this could lead onto permanent employment at UCB.

  • You are passionate about chemistry/chemical engineering/pharmaceutical sciences and/or analytical science.
  • You are self-motivated and willing to provide innovation thinking to our laboratory experiments.
  • You are eager to take accountability for your own workplan, driving deliverables, manage multiple internal and external stakeholders and contribute to parallel workstreams.
  • You are self-motivated, pro-active and ready to drive and motivate team mates to achieve deadlines, maintaining engagement and energy for the project.


Two graduate journeys are never the same… and this one is an exciting one! There’s a lot more to it, but to get started, this is what is expecting you by the time you join us:

  • You will be a key player in the laboratory work related to your scientific area (e.g. a chemical or pharmaceutical development lab).
  • You will learn and work with cutting edge development methods for products with the real potential to be future medicines.
  • You will collaborate with multiple team members from a range of scientific disciplines and be completely embedded in a dynamic and motivated team.
  • You will have the opportunity to spend time working on a related scientific discipline (such as analytical science) to gain a much deeper understanding of the factors that go into Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • You will also have the opportunity to spend some time in a non-laboratory-based environment such as project management or business excellence to learn about the many activities that are required to transform a molecule into a medicine.


Ideally, this is what your background looks like. However, we are happy for you to challenge us that you’re the right one for this job even if these boxes are not really ticked.

  • Recently graduated from a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Analytical Chemistryor something similar.
  • You are naturally curious and able to think scientifically, able to learn new skills whilst challenging current thinking.
  • Have significant experience working in a laboratory environment and of collaborative working with people with different outlooks.
  • Effective program communication and managing the culture in line with UCB’s values is an essential leadership component.
  • An excellent command of English is a must…although not the only skill you need to communicate effectively!
