Context of Need

In order to continue the establishment of a team dedicated to the development of new projects related to high-pressure hydrogen - Hydrogen refueling station - the John Cockerill Group is looking for a Calculation Engineer to join the energy sector.

Key roles and responsibilities

Calculation Engineer is in charge of simulations and analyses of all types of product developments and optimizations by means of specific digital simulation technology trough theoretical analyses and computational experiments.
Based on the related results, he evaluates existing systems and make precise statements about the resilience of materials and the stability of structures. He plays a significant role in the improvement of developments and the design of more secure and durable products.
The objectives of this function are multiple: reduction of the required working time and costs, optimization of the quality of the practical measurements, acceleration of the development processes.

Concrete tasks

  • Ensure the management of the calculation activity in collaboration with the team in terms of identification of the workload and using of subcontracting,
  • Manage and develop the subcontracting network,
  • Define the tools and types of modeling adapted to the contexts,
  • Prepare the execution of digital simulations and calculations,
  • Coordinate and perform simulation tests, calculation, and virtual prototypes
    • About topics such as rigidity, solidity, dynamics, acoustics, structure crash, occupant protection, pedestrian protection, multi-body simulations and thermal calculations.
    • On various properties and physical processes such as load, force, illumination, acceleration, performance, stability, and service life, with the assistance of the finite element method,
  • Evaluate and analyze results, interpreting calculations modeling, document measurements,
  • Use these results to develop and coordinate solutions for technical problems with customers, suppliers and production employees,
  • Presentation and discussion of the results and findings with the responsible specialist departments, the Group itself and customers,
  • Participate in the enrichment and development of new methodologies and design logics with the aim of reducing costs, in reflection of technical solutions to meet specific customer requirements.

Profile

  • Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in an engineering science or technology field,
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Calculation Engineer function.

  • Hard Skills
  • Knowledge and technical skills in numerical simulation, optimization or nonlinear simulations, finite element calculation techniques are required,
  • Knowledge of gas and more specifically hydrogen is a significant asset,
  • Knowledge of at least three of the following software: Matlab, Simulink, Fluent, CFD, Fem-Programmes, Carmaker, ANSYS Struktur, ASCET-SD, Solidworks, ICEM, Inventor,
  • Good command of Office applications,
  • Advanced skills in English - minimum B2 level.
