We are looking for a Distribution Manager for our site in Mechelen. As Distribution Manager, you contribute, together with your department, to the realization of the objectives of the site. You will manage a team of administrative as well as distribution employees, a total team size of around 30 people, while reporting directly to the Branch Manager. You manage delivery of agreed performance levels ensuring customer satisfaction. You ensure optimised dedicated fleet utilisation, while having a central role also in commercial discussions and negotiations.

Your Role

As our future Distribution Manager, you ensure that activities are carried out according to the agreed QCDISME objectives (quality, cost, delivery, improvement, safety, morale, environment) and assure their continuous improvement process. You are responsible for directing, coordinating, and Implementing/following up operational measures. You also make sure that people within the operational organization develop continuously so that they can actively participate in realizing and improving the results.

Your Responsibilities

  • Organize and coordinate all operational activities of the day-to-day distribution operations;
  • Supervise the workload of the team, allocating the team members to optimize service during working hours;
  • Work closely with the customer to enlarge relationship/customer binding and handle customer requests;
  • Acting as centralized and proactive interface between customer, and other operational departments (administration / warehouse) within the Kuehne+ Nagel organization;
  • Actively look for process improvements based on statistics and analyses both beneficial for the customer as for Kuehne + Nagel;
  • Carrier and partner management including ensuring service levels and rate negotiations;
  • Provide and report daily, monthly KPI’s (to branch manager and customer);
  • Daily transport optimization based on statistics and analyses as an integral part of your function, including financial analyses for business reviews;

Your Skills and Experiences

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Transport and/or Logistics, or equivalent combination of education and experience and and at least 2-4 years experiences in the Road Transport;
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate and lead people; ability to set priorities for yourself and your team members;
  • Structured and analytical way of working, and project management skills;
  • Innovative thinking and approach of permanent process optimization;
  • Highly customer service focused and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent Knowledge of MS Excel (and other MS Office software);
  • Very good communication skills in Dutch and French; English would be a plus;
  • Experience with applications of Webfleet and TMS is a plus.
