The Job
FedEx is one of the largest transportation companies in the world and is intertwined with the world economy. Understanding trends and anticipating changes can make a large impact to our customers and company.

In order to increase our capabilities in this area, we’re looking for an Economist (Associate/Mid Level/Senior).

The Economist has the following 3 key objectives:


  • Provide insights to the executive team about how the external environment is evolving and how this impacts FedEx’ business.
  • Develop the team’s knowledge about external/economic indicators and their impact on FedEx.
  • Support the team in overall (strategic) analysis.

Your week will be focused on projects that contribute to those objectives. Examples:
  • Based on macro-economic data releases, assess what is the difference versus the forecast and investigate what’s driving these differences.
  • Investigate how the different composition of the economy in Germany versus Spain is impacting FedEx.
  • Assessing whether economic head-/tailwinds impact industries evenly or if there are specific risks/opportunities that carry over to FedEx.
  • Analyze, measure & improve our ability to forecast transportation market performance and impacts to FedEx.
  • Assess strategic opportunities or tracking the success of current strateg

About You
The overall economy is your passion. As an avid reader, you keep up to date on news, research & modelling. You like working with economic data to answer a business challenge. Explaining the economy in a way that non-economists can get clear take-aways from your work gives you a kick.
  • A master’s degree in (Applied) Economics, Econometrics or similar.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in modelling (with) economic data.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Experience in (big) data analytics solutions an advantage.

The Team
You will join the Strategy Analytics team, which is part of Marketing.
The team is responsible for:
  • the Definition & Measurement of the value delivered by the regional Strategy (&Strategic Programs)
  • Comparisons of the FedEx performance versus the external environment
The team will consist of 5 professionals with complementary skills. You’ll learn from and challenge your peers whilst delivering on the team’s responsibilities.
