Job DescriptionAs an EU Geologist, you will be involved with your team and in close collaboration with the Mining team and Operations in all activities related to the understanding, geological modeling, and efficient and sustainable exploitation of Carmeuse EU deposits. You will participate in the estimation of geological reserves and in the exploration for new resources. You will assist Operations in anticipating and resolving quality issues and maximizing the utilization of our natural resources. You will collaborate with R&D & Process teams to help address technical challenges related to stone calcination. As a member of Carmeuse Geology Group, you will take part in Carmeuse extensive training program.
Your challenge
Mission
Provide geological support to Mining and Operations to ensure our quarries can supply the required quality and quantities to satisfy the needs of our customers. Ensure reserves and resources are correctly identified and characterized. Participate in calcination process improvement.
Main tasks
- Continuous self-training (technical publications etc.)
- Map rock types and structures inside and outside quarries
- Organize and follow geophysics & drilling campaigns
- Describe and sample cores
- Organize and follow testing (chemistry, rock mechanics etc.)
- Update & maintain sample and drilling databases
- Build and update 3D geological models
- Communicate with Mining team and participate in mine design & mine planning
- Calculate reserves & resources
- Participate in regular quarry meetings with Operations
- Provide carbonates expertise to other team members
- Participate in cross-functional calcination team meetings & projects with laboratories, R&D & Process team
Basic Requirements
- Master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant industry experience or PhD in Carbonate sedimentology, diagenesis, or related fields
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in field geology, geological mapping, and core logging in carbonates
- Interest in economic geology and industrial minerals
- Good command of spoken and written English
- Driving license
- Willing to travel inside and outside Europe up to 30% of your time
- Geological exploration methods
- Carbonate sedimentology & petrography
- Carbonate geochemistry
- Basic and specialized software proficiency
- Skills in block modeling, geostatistics, reserve estimation or programming is a plus
- Team player
- Proactive and resourceful
- Curious and self-learner
- Strong interpersonal skills to thrive in cross-functional and multicultural teams
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to extract underlying trends from data
- Ability to summarize and simplify complex concepts to Management
