Who You’ll Work With

You will join our Brussels office as part of our MineLens team and our global Basic Materials Insights network.
MineLens leverages McKinsey’s 85 years of industry expertise alongside the extensive experience our mining professionals have along the entire mining value chain to help companies implement transformations at mine sites around the world. The team helps companies to compare their operating, labor and cost performance to a broad set of peers. Our proprietary database includes equipment, cost and labour metrics from over 275 mining operations across the globe.

What You’ll Do

You will support our consultants and clients by collecting, summarizing, analyzing and synthetizing information that helps solve specific business problems in the basic materials industries.
In this role, you will perform a wide range of research tasks on various basic materials industries and topics, from collecting market trends to developing perspectives that are relevant to clients. You will also collaborate with our global Basic Materials Insights network to share and build knowledge, best practices and relevant new ideas.
Your work will be multifaceted and exciting and you will gain insights into many topics. In project work and in exchanges with colleagues, you will deal with new intellectual challenges daily as well as build your industry and functional knowledge on an ongoing basis.
This is a full-time 6-months internship with approximately 8 hours of work per day, 5 days a week.

Qualifications

  • Student in the final year of a master’s degree in mining engineering or geology
  • Solid understanding of economic, financial and general business concepts in the targeted industries is a plus
  • Good technical and/or operational knowledge of mining processes
  • Experience in conducting business or academic research
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Advanced software knowledge (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau, PowerBI) is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills in English
