Seeing beyond the image, we develop sight, sound, and sharing solutions to help customers work together, share insights, and wow audiences. Healthcare is one of the key markets of Barco. For many years Barco has been contributing to improved healthcare by means of solutions in radiology, mammography, surgery, dermatology, dentistry, pathology etc. 

Innovation in healthcare 

The Barco Labs Healthcare team is constantly looking for new innovative solutions that push forward the state-of-the-art and can improve healthcare models. This group takes care of the entire innovation cycle: ideation and MVP definition, market evaluation and business case creation, R&D and clinical work for creation of proof of concepts and solutions, market and clinical / regulatory validation of the solutions, business model and business plan creation, up to commercial introduction and early pilot sales. 

The task at hand 

Pathologists have to review very large images to establish a diagnostic. This results in a lot of interactions using mouse and keyboard or some other dedicated devices to pan and zoom over the scanned tissue sample. To ease this task, we would like to implement an intelligent feature to automatically define an optimum navigation path over the tissue sample and that would be able to follow it without requiring the user to manually pan or zoom on the image.

As a student, you will be trained in how pathologists are using a diagnostic viewer workstation today and its components. By combining image processing techniques and fake user interaction inputs, you will develop a solution to automate some of these tasks and tweak it wherever necessary resulting into a Proof of Concept with one or two pre-selected viewers. As a result the PoC should work very well on a number of test images.

Qualifications 
  • Knowledge in image processing.
  • Experience with C++
  • Basics on user interaction management in Windows is a plus
  • Fluent communication in English 

Furthermore, you should be a student in a technical discipline, eligible to work at our HQ in Kortrijk Belgium.
