Bakker & Partners is looking for an R&D Expert Plant Based Solutions for Vandemoortele.

Vandemoortele is an international food company with headquarters in Belgium. Vandemoortelehas two business lines: one in frozen bakery products and one in margarines, culinary oils and fats (MCOF). They are European market leader in their two core activities.

In 2021, Vandemoortele realised a turnover of approximately 1.2 billion euros with 4500 employees. Vandemoortele is present in 12 European countries and in the United States with its own sales organisations and/or production sites.

You will be based in the R&D department in Izegem.

Your function

As R&D Expert Plant-Based Solutions, you are part of Vandemoortele’s R&D organisation, and more specifically the Science & Technology team, which focuses on long-term research.

You will be responsible for the research on new plant-based applications, a new branch which has a great deal of potential!

You will set up this research and applications from virtually scratch, which means that you will have a very diverse and challenging position. You will elaborate long-term research to build up knowledge on ingredient functionality, processes, etc. You will perform literature study, generate ideas, set up test methods, and develop new products at lab and pilot scale. You will do this in cooperation with external partners like universities. In addition, you will have contact with (potential) customers, as a technical expert, and you will travel sporadically to production plants to follow up on your projects.

Your profile

• You have a master degree in bio-engineering or biosciences with specialization in the food industry, or another relevant education.
• You can present at least a first relevant experience in R&D within the food industry.
• Expertise with regard to oils and fats is a strong plus.
• You have a real R&D mindset: you are analytical, you want to investigate and understand things. You are creative and can think out of the box.
• You are hands-on and get satisfaction from putting things into practice.
• You are an enterpreneurial person, you take initiative and are able to work independently. At the same time, you ensure good communication and cooperation with your stakeholders.
• You are driven and passionate, can enthuse others and get them on board.
• You speak and write very good English. Knowledge of Dutch and French is a strong advantage.
• You are prepared to travel (limited, maximum 10%).
