You at AGC’s Technovation Centre – GMR (Glass Melting and Refractories) Department – your mission

  • You will be based at the Technovation Centre close to Brussels (Belgium) where research & development, engineering and IP activities are centralized under one roof with 280 members of personnel
  • You will join a dynamic team of researchers inside the GMR department - active in areas from raw materials to glass melting, numerical simulations, energy audits, endoscopic inspection of production furnaces, (extra)thin glass, industrial data mining and analysis amongst others
  • You will be involved in projects aiming to decarbonise our glass production by using electrical melting and/or hydrogen combustion, which are the most promising options to decarbonise the glass industry. Design adjustments and process improvements will be necessary, requiring furnace numerical simulations and industrial trials.
  • Specific training and support will be put in place from the first months with our researchers and technicians.
  • Your main responsibilities will involve numerical simulation of flat glass furnaces ie
  • Drawing and meshing furnace geometries
  • Simulating glass flow and temperature, and combustion (of natural gas and/or hydrogen) in the furnaces
  • Reporting and making recommendations
  • Validating simulation results based on industrial trials
  • Coordinating with other departments (engineering, production, IP, …)

Your profile

A love of sience is in your blood with very good academic results in one of the following fields: civil engineer, master or PHD in applied mathematics, physics or IT. In all cases (must have) you have acquired a solid background and training in numerical simulations. As such, you display the following competences:

  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Problem solving , results oriented
  • Ability to communicate results to both technical and non technical colleagues
  • Ability to solve challenging problems by using innovative non conventional approaches
  • Knowledge in the following simulation tools is an asset: Ansys Fluent
  • Excellent team working and communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Hungry for learning and growth
  • Fluent in English (essential). Knowledge of French is a plus.
