Thales Belgium, which employs more than 280 collaborators, is specialized in the design, development and supply of critical information systems for customers in the sectors of Defense, Security (including Cyber) and Aerospace.

Thales Belgium SA (Tubize site) is looking for a :

Technical Design Office Manager (TDOM) (FR/UK)

The Technical Design Office (TDO) of Thales Belgium is a multidisciplinary office. The TDO manager is responsible for the design and development of mechanical components, printed circuit boards, and the validation of components used on electronic boards for military and civil applications.

The team integrates mechanical, analog radio frequency, digital, and component engineering technologies.

The office also provides technical support to the manufacturing activities at the Tubize site. The TDO consists of three sub-teams, each with their own team leader: mechanical design, components and magnetics and PCB design.

Under the supervision of the TDOM, the TDO Coordinator (TDOC) will support the team members by creating simple plans per project. The TDO has a total of eight team members.

Technical Design Office Manager (TDOM)

Mission:

The primary role of the TDOM is to manage the team, which includes an administrative, leadership and strategical role. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the team. The TDOM reports to the Hardware Head of the Discipline (HoD).

Main Responsibilities:

• Define and tailor the TDO processes, practices and tools according to Thales Belgium as well as project’s requirements;
• Define the goals of the TDO;
• Review resource requirements and manage resource availability and allocation;
• Outline a budget based on requirements and tracking TDO costs to deliver project on budget;
• Manage the delivery of prototypes according to the project planning;
• Provide regular reports and project status KPI’s to Solution Engineering Manager (SEM), Project Manager (PM) and Head of Discipline (HoD);
• Manage, coordinate and track the work execution throughout the project development life cycle;
• Contribute Hardware Engineering expertise and process knowledge to improve company objectives and processes, effectively communicating and gathering support for team members;
• Ensure team members are aligned with market expectations;
• Ensure that team members can grow in competency. This through annual performance and development reviews, daily coaching and mentoring;
• Organize daily stand – up meetings and weekly team meetings to support the team and check the workforce is sized correctly.
  
  

Within our organization, the TDOM will work closely with the TDOC, the Project Managers (PM), and the Solution Engineering Manager (SEM).

Profile:

Required Level Of Studies And Experience

• You have a Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field;
• You have at least 5 years’ experience in people management, preferably within technology and/or IT industry;
• Solid project management and technical leadership experience.

• You are a manager who is willing to engage and develop your team through the use of collaborative work and challenging approaches;

• You are responsible and show a great sense of initiative;
• You have a passion for technologies, learning, and problem solving;
• You are fluent in writing and speaking French and English. Dutch is a plus;
• You understand the underlying technical stakes behind the different products and services offered within your area of responsibility;
• You have knowledge of project management, engineering processes, lifecycles, associated tools, and flexible ways of working (Agile, Lean, etc.);
• You have a strong understanding of your technical field and can appreciate the fundamentals of the disciplines you will interact with;
• You have the ability to engage and influence a variety of stakeholders to get things done – must be highly effective in a matrix organization – and foster a collaborative environment where information and innovative ideas are shared;
• You have the ability to effectively communicate design, specifications and implementation details;
• Confidently interacting in a diverse environment, with people from a variety of professions and backgrounds.
