About New Business Incubator

In NBI we develop long-term business opportunities for the business units, as well as business opportunities with a different business model that may develop into a stand-alone business, called incubators.

What you will be doing

You will be responsible for the collection, analysis, consolidation and reporting of market information for the different application segments for the different application segments of Umicore. You will maintain existing Market Intelligence Tools and develop novel visualization ways to support strategic decisions. You will report to the Strategic Insights and Analytics (SIA) Manager.

You will be located in the Umicore HQ office in Brussels.

Detailed Responsibilities

• You understand and modelize the market actors and drivers at stake in specific Umicore markets such as: energy, catalysis, recycling, … You focus on the Transportation / Energy / recycling sectors and you monitor key players’ strategies while maintaining a close view on emerging markets and applications. You oversee market aspect of competitor benchmarking and feed IP and R&D teams with all relevant information for IP valorisation and Innovation road mapping.
• You take an active role with the Program and Project Managers of NBI and BUs Marketing and Sales and Applied Technology Teams, to bring insights on market and competition trends.
• You organize ad-hoc projects such as fact-finding trips, conferences, to discover and cross-check information on the field.
• You integrate Technological insights in the Materials Technology market understanding as well as regulatory issues in the input you share with other departments. You actively participate to Umicore activities on Market intelligence: Trainings, Umicore Commercial Platform, Umicore Technological Academy
• You are always looking for new IT tools that would allow the Strategic Insight & Analytics Team to analyse and present their inputs in the most effective and visual way: Business intelligence software, Collaborative tools, Visual software, Databases. You interface between the stakeholders and the IT tool providers, and you are the key user of tools to the benefit of the stakeholders.s novel visualization tools to support Umicore strategic decisions.

Who we are looking for

• You have a master’s degree in Science or Materials Technology.
• 1 or 2 years’ experience in (management) consulting or B2B market research environment is a plus.
• You have a genuine interest in advanced technologies, clean energies and innovation.
• You are a data cruncher, computer literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft (and associated) tools.
• You are multilingual (English, and minimum one out of other languages like Dutch, French, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese). Speaking Mandarin would be a strong plus for the position.
• You are a logic and critical thinker and can understand and challenge market and economical concepts. You have both the big picture approach while being also focused on details.

• You have strong communication and networking skills.

• You are willing to travel abroad (10%).
