E3G’s Clean Economy team is recruiting a policy advisor in our Brussels office. The candidate would be working across industry and energy transition politics, at the core of E3G’s efforts for an ambitious delivery of the European Green Deal.

Key Responsibilities

The specific role we are looking to fill would be situated across E3Gs industry and energy work and focus on 1) securing ambition on gas transition in relevant parts of the ‘Fit for 55’ package and building research as global investment regimes adapt to the energy transition (ISDS mechanisms). 2) securing ambition on industry transition in relevant parts of the ‘Fit for 55’ package, including the Sustainable Products Initiative, and building research on gas use in industry.

Across both, responsibilities include:

• Support the day-to-day research, stakeholder engagement, advocacy and communications on industry and energy transition politics, under the direction of Gas Politics and the Industry lead in Brussels.
• Lead stakeholder engagement and advocacy on hydrogen and around parts of the Fit for 55 package legislative process.
• Develop thought leadership analysis and strategic interventions on energy, and industry transition politics.
• Build relationships with EU institutions and stakeholders that shape the Brussels debate.
• Producing internal and external communications materials and undertaking short pieces of wider analysis; occasionally support projects in other areas of E3G’s work and contribute to the wider organisational development of E3G.
• The role will be based in Brussels. Limited travel will be required, but we are open to discussing options if this would otherwise become a barrier to apply for this role.

Experience and Skills

The successful candidate will:

• Have an undergraduate degree (required) and post-graduate qualification (desirable).
• Have experience with EU policy processes and advocacy strategies.
• Have a keen interest in working on questions related to the energy and industry transition and EU politics. Demonstrate in-depth experience on at least one of these areas.
• Have experience developing and implementing political strategies, using both evidence-based analysis and stakeholder engagement.
• Be a team player, committed to achieving E3G’s objectives and capable of inspiring and facilitating action by others. You pay attention to detail and work effectively to support shared team outcomes.
• Have clear written and oral communication skills and impeccable English. You are able to communicate complex issues in a simple and engaging manner. Knowledge of another European language is a plus.
• Is used to operating internationally, with a high degree of cultural sensitivity.
• Have the right to work in Belgium

E3G offers a salary in the range of EUR 43,000 to EUR 50,000 (gross per annum) reflective of qualifications and experience, with the possibility to go beyond this range for exceptional candidates.
