EUA is looking for a Press and Communications Manager
The European University Association is the largest and most active university association in Europe, spreading across 48 countries, with a strong focus on membership services and an active political representation at the European level. Our press and communications work is a reference for the whole sector.
We are currently seeking a new colleague for our Communications, Public Affairs and Membership Unit, to steer the press relations of the association and be the main editor for the EUA newsletters, editorials and other communications products. The person will also work closely with other colleagues of the Communications Unit to develop EUA online communications. He or she will be expected to develop new content and contribute to EUA’s digital and social media programme in an EU context, involving all our stakeholders.
This is a great opportunity for an all-around communications professional with excellent copywriting and storytelling skills, good knowledge in European affairs and a passion for higher education and research issues.
The role is being defined as a 60-80% employee contract and we are open to a different status depending on the successful candidate’s profile and preferences.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The position covers the following responsibilities:
- Supervise EUA press activities, media contacts, lead publication dissemination and contribute to EUA communications strategy;
- Develop compelling communications content on EUA channels, including news items and materials for EUA’s main policy issues, publications and events;
- Write and edit engaging content such as editorials for staff and board members, blog posts, social media campaigns, newsletters, annual report;
- Collaborate closely with other communications and advocacy colleagues to contribute to social media relations with other public affairs initiatives;
- Contribute to our websites SEO strategy and social media outreach to support EUA services, events and membership drives;
- Ensure relevant media monitoring.
BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following experience, competencies and personal qualities:
- At least five years’ experience in communications and editing, preferably including experience in relation to European higher education or research policies. Experience in journalism and/or media relations would be especially appreciated;
- Impeccable English copywriting and editing skills;
- Strong storytelling skills, accuracy and attention to detail;
- In-depth understanding of social media channels, the digital landscape and new communications trends;
- Fully proficiency in applying SEO principles for websites and in publishing content on Twitter and LinkedIn;
- Experience in podcasting, shooting and editing videos is a plus;
- University degree preferably in journalism, communications or political sciences;
- Strong project management and organisational skills;
- Highly collaborative with strong teamworking spirit.

- We provide for flexible working arrangements (teleworking), but the main location of the position is in Brussels.
